New StorAssure Software Allows Small to Medium Businesses to Protect Data Stored on Laptops and Desktops

MILPITAS, CA–(MARKET WIRE)–Feb 21, 2006 — Adaptec, Inc. (NasdaqNM:ADPT - News), a global leader in storage solutions, today announced the availability of StorAssure Personal Edition software, an easy-to-use and cost-effective continuous data protection (CDP) solution for automatically backing up files from client desktops or laptops to a network attached Snap Server. StorAssure runs unattended in the background, saving file changes as they occur and giving individuals, small office and remote office users the security of knowing that their valuable data is being protected.

A majority of small and medium businesses do not consistently backup the client data stored on employee desktops and laptops. Without data protection or a strategy to recover this business-critical information, small and medium business users continue to put their data at risk.”Data protection is growing in importance at small- and medium-sized businesses,” said Brad Nisbet, program manager with IDC. “Products like Adaptec’s StorAssure help ease the pain associated with backup and recovery management.”

StorAssure’s simple configuration wizards allow users to quickly set up and customize the automated backup of their data. The use of ‘rules’ allows users to specify the types of files to protect by application, file type or customized include/exclude lists. StorAssure also supports saving multiple versions of changed files, providing even greater protection against file corruption or accidental deletion. StorAssure is optimized for the mobile workforce, providing automatic offline logging, network detection, and battery saving features that laptop users require. If a laptop is lost or files are accidentally deleted or corrupted, StorAssure guides the user through the process of recovering files and restoring data quickly and easily.

“Companies are beginning to realize what it would cost them if the valuable data on their employees’ laptop and desktop systems is lost,” said Mark Pollard, vice president of marketing for the Storage Systems and Solutions Group at Adaptec. “Now, with StorAssure there is a solution that doesn’t require any IT resources to implement, continuously protects data without anyone even knowing its running, and is so easy-to-use that users can restore data on their own.”

StorAssure is the newest addition to Adaptec’s portfolio of data management and protection software that also includes BakBone’s NetVault backup and recovery software, Server-to-Server (S2S) Synchronization v2 for simplified data replication and Snap Enterprise Data Replicator (Snap EDR), a high-performance, network-optimized data replication and management software solution.
