SEPATON Announces Next Generation Data De-Duplication Software

SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–May 8, 2006–SEPATON, Inc., the leader in high-performance data protection solutions, today announced at Symantec Vision 2006 the next generation of data de-duplication technology with its new DeltaStor(TM) software. DeltaStor software is a SEPATON ContentAware(TM) application that exponentially increases the amount of data that can be stored on a SEPATON S2100®-ES2 Virtual Tape Library (VTL) appliance. DeltaStor software eliminates the need to store unchanged or duplicated data within files so users can store more data online at significantly lower cost, delivering the highest level of data de-duplication ratios without affecting the backup window. DeltaStor software will be demonstrated this week at Symantec Vision 2006 at booth #509.

DeltaStor software draws on SEPATON’s ContentAware architecture to deliver the industry’s highest level of data de-duplication without affecting the backup window. For example, the maximum retention time for 2.5 TB of full daily backups on a 25 TB system is only ten days. DeltaStor software stores 250 days of 25 TB backups in the same space while providing the performance and other benefits of disk-based data protection. DeltaStor software delivers significant cost savings, improved restore times and reduced complexity in the data center.

From built-in intelligence about file content and the backup formats used by leading backup software applications, DeltaStor software locates previously stored versions of data on any virtual cartridge in the VTL. DeltaStor software compares this stored data to the latest backup set at the byte level. New duplicate data is stored and old duplicate data is replaced with pointers to the newer data. DeltaStor software can also be used with the software compression option integrated with the S2100-ES2 for even greater data de-duplication ratios.
