The first step will be to build a research lab to develop data protection and remote disaster recovery products.
FalconStor Software is helping the Computer Network Information Center and the Chinese Academy of Sciences work on a storage and data protection system for the government and companies in China, the organization said on Tuesday. The first step of the partnership will be to build a research lab to develop data protection and remote disaster recovery products. FalconStor will work on the lab along with Chinese administrators and researchers. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Computer Network Information Centre is a subsidiary research institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which, among other things, promotes the development of China’s high tech industries. The laboratory will be designed to research the feasibility of remote data backup, remote disaster recovery and remote protection of enterprise data, according to FalconStor. Researchers will be focused on developing an Internet-based high availability data backup and storage platform for businesses and the government within China. The platform also is expected to provide an Internet backbone for backup, recovery and storage between China and other countries. The Computer Network Information Centre and the Chinese Academy of Sciences intends to use FalconStor’s PrimeVault Data Protection services to backup data as well as a storage platform, according to information released by the company. This will allow Chinese government agencies and enterprises more efficient data protection and access to important data even in the event of a disaster. PrimeVault includes data protection, archiving and hosting services. “FalconStor is honored to be selected… to cooperate on their Internet storage network initiative,” said ReiJane Huai, chairman and CEO of FalconStor, in a written statement. “We see this as a great opportunity to further enhance PrimeVault’s functionality with real-world testing and development on a global scale, while strengthening China’s Internet infrastructure and furthering its communication and collaboration with the rest of the world.” |
