The SafetyVAULT(TM) Solution transfers data efficiently and securely without the bandwidth restrictions associated with typical physical data storage systems; Designed to serve highly regulated banks and credit unions, it is available to network environments that strive to minimize the consequences of downtime and data recovery from a network’s digital assets if a crash happens
A bank or credit union, for instance, must comply with regulations regarding data management and recoverability in the event its network fails. However, many financial institutions currently bet on older tape systems to backup files from a network’s range of digital assets, including desktops and all types of servers. Backup tapes have a propensity for failing. In some cases, filled backup tapes must be transported and stored in a warehouse. This exposure may contribute to their vulnerability.
“Our conversations with customers revealed that they were looking for a solution that provided local archiving, automated off-site data vaulting and complete network and server recovery in hours without tapes,” said Bill Ristvedt, President of CFC Technology Corporation. “CFC Technology responded with the SafetyVAULT(TM) Solution, which delivers data backup and recovery demanded by banks, credit unions and businesses concerned about the likelihood of data loss and downtime when a network crash happens.”
The SafetyVAULT(TM) Solution mirrors and retains data, which is optimized to decrease the physical storing of a large amount of data. It eliminates typical bandwidth issues–and exhaustive transfer rates–compared to tape systems. It backs up and recovers Windows desktop and servers, Novell products and solutions, Unix and Linux operating systems, check and document imaging solutions and bank or credit union core solutions.
“We have been using the SafetyVAULT(TM) Solution since October 2006 and are enjoying unattended off site back-up of our entire network for our six offices. The ability to restore down to the file level in a matter of minutes is a huge benefit. It is a relief not having to worry about tape back-ups for eight servers or the exposure of transporting tapes. It truly makes the backup and restore process seamless,” said Tim Moore, Vice President Operations Central Bank, Stillwater, Minnesota.
The SafetyVAULT(TM) Solution features Disk-Based Recovery Appliance from Data Domain, which employ data deduplication technology to make restore and backup functions faster and more reliable than existing solutions. Symantec Backup Exec(TM) System Recovery is also an integral component that shortens system recovery time to minutes, not hours or days if a network fails.
“As a core element of CFC’s SafetyVAULT Solution offering, Data Domain’s Enterprise Protection Storage appliances free IT managers from the risks and inefficiencies of tape-based backup,” said Beth White, Vice President of Marketing for Data Domain. “By massively reducing data volume, on average by 20 to 50x, the use of disk for backup and network-efficient disaster recover becomes economically and operationally feasible. The exposure associated with third party handling of backup tapes can also be eliminated. Data Domain is pleased be a part of CFC’s SafetyVAULT Solution offering. Our field-proven protection storage systems have reinvented data protection for over 750 enterprises worldwide and we look forward to bringing that same value proposition to more of CFC’s clients.”
