Backup service recognized for simplicity, ease of use

BackupReview.Info, a Web site providing third-party reviews of online backup services, posted its revised vendor rankings for November 2007, with Carbonite moving to the no. 1 spot, up from third in the previous review cycle. BackupReview.Info evaluates online backup service offerings based on a variety of criteria that are outlined on its Web site at:
“Carbonite moved up in the rankings because of a wide range of factors, but the most significant factors in our minds are Carbonite’s price, the proven stability and scalability of their platform, foreign language support, and ease of use,” said Mamush Heayie, editor of BackupReview.Info. “Carbonite was the first company to offer unlimited backup for a fixed price, and they were the first who were able to boil down the entire installation process to just an e-mail address and password. The ease-of-use afforded by these two simple-sounding innovations has made online backup accessible to the mass market as never before.”

Carbonite has backed up more than 2.5 billion files, it has deployed more than 2.5 petabytes of storage to date, and it backs up almost 30 million new files daily, and it has recovered more than 160 million files for users. In addition to English, Carbonite has also released versions in French, German, Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, Thai, and Portuguese. Several other languages will be released over the coming months.
“BackupReview.Info contains a lot of useful information for anyone considering an online backup service, so we’re pleased that BackupReview.Info recognizes the benefits of our keep-it-simple design philosophy and pricing,” said David Friend, Carbonite’s chairman and CEO. “Almost 10 percent of hard drives fail, 6 percent of laptops get stolen, lost, or destroyed, and 46 percent of computer users accidentally lose data every year. The odds are not good for consumers, so our goal is to make backup as affordable, simple, and reliable as possible.”
