Great article! I love the fact you're pointing out the limits of online backup. Disclaimer: We're a provider.

In terms of easy, could I entice you to try ours? You should be backing up your home folder in less than 90 seconds.

Better than traditional online backup, add another 5 minutes and you can back up your laptop to your desktop.

I think you're being a bit unfair. Symantec recently acquired Veritas, who have a long and reputable history in the world of Data Protection.

Their offering will be based around the Veritas solution, which should be well worth considering.

Like Matthew I often help people who have problems with Symantec/Norton products even after they have been uninstalled. They are incredibly painful to deal with on nearly every occasion.

Just to add insult to injury the tool to forcibly uninstall does so for every Symantec/Norton product without the ability to choose.

Personally I wouldn't touch their backup product with a barge pole. If you do you will very likely regret it later.

Several years ago when I installed a Symantec security update, my hard drive crashed. When I called Dell or Windows help, the guy said, "You're the third person today that's happened to who's called." Symantec gave me my money back for the update. I spent a small fortune having my hard drive recovered, and it still isn't quite right. I wouldn't trust Symantec with a wooden nickel, nevermind a computer file.
