The cross-platform support makes it the first online backup leader to offer the same level of service for both Mac and Windows users
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 2, 2008 — Earlier today, ElephantDrive Inc. announced the launch of its ElephantDesktop for Mac, the latest extension of the firm’s automated online backup platforms. The program allows Mac users the same robust functionality as the PC users who have been enjoying the ElephantDrive experience on their home and office computers. ElephantDrive is the first player to offer equivalent unlimited online backup and storage support for Mac and Windows users, making it the ideal service for users, households, or businesses operating mixed environments. “The ElephantDesktop for Mac opens our platform up to millions of Apple users who are still searching for a simple, fast, and affordable online backup and access solution,” said Michael Fisher, ElephantDrive’s co-founder and CEO. “The ElephantDrive service meets the needs of a brand new segment of users - those that are operating both Macs and PCs and looking for a seamless system to organize, protect, and access their data.”
The consumer packages that ElephantDrive offers offer unlimited total storage and start as low as $4.95/month. The Home Edition protects one computer and manages version history, sharing, and anytime-anywhere access, and the Home Plus Edition provides an expanded set of services to a whole household. ElephantDrive automatically protects critical categories of files including photos, music, videos and office suite documents as well as commonly used directories from data loss in the event of digital disaster such as hard drive crash, accidental deletion, natural disaster or theft. Each file stored is encrypted with strong AES encryption and then transferred over a further encrypted 128-bit SSL connection - the same system used by online banking and financial institutions. After the initial backup completes, ElephantDrive only backs up new of modified files so that subsequent backups run extremely fast. In addition to the most recent backup, ElephantDrive maintains older file versions as well. At any time, files may be recovered via the ElephantDrive client software or website.
At least one user relied fully on the system during the beta period. “I’m so lucky that I actually signed for their pre-release of the Mac backup,” said digital artist Eric Martin. Martin’s laptop was stolen out of the back of his car while he was participating in the beta for the ElephantDesktop for Mac. “I was able to access my portfolio and my current projects the same evening and to get back up and running almost immediately.”
“I’m excited that we’re able to meet the needs of such an important market segment,” said Benjamin Widhelm, President and CTO at ElephantDrive. “We’re eager to bring the Mac community the world’s best online backup, storage, and access.”
