NEW YORK (July 17, 2008) — drop.io (http://drop.io), the simple private sharing solution, announced today the release of a brand new feature package that contains several enhanced features, new additions and major system-wide upgrades.
The most prominent new feature is drop.io’s new “/system view” which represents a new innovation for managing online “drops.” Starting today, drop.io users will be able to enjoy a dynamic new interface to manage pictures, videos, office documents, voicemails, faxes, archives, etc., in their drop via a single integrated re-sortable and resizable dynamic user interface. The new “/system view” interface includes: thumbnail and details views, shortcut keys, and multi-select functionality. In essence, all of the familiar interface options available on one’s desktop are now available on drop.io. Users can select and delete multiple files using familiar mouse and keyboard commands and then delete, copy, email, fax, all the files in mass.
According to drop.io’s CEO Sam Lessin, “Our new /system view has an incredibly wide range of uses and generally makes drop.io a more powerful user experience. Designers and freelancers will particularly enjoy using drop.io to share work in drops with specific clients and will be able to dynamically resort and present their work.”
Other significant drop.io improvements in the new feature set release include:
* Multi-select / Multi-delete — Users can now select multiple assets and then delete them within the system view.
* Fax Confirmation Notification — drop.io now confirms that a fax was successfully sent
* Multi-Moves — Users can now move several assets at one time
* Resume for Failed Converts — drop.io automatically re-tries if an asset does not convert properly the first time
* Unique Asset Sharing — Users can now provide a unique URL for individual asset sharing
* MP3 Meta Data — drop.io now displays metadata from uploaded music file
* Drop Contact Cards — All drops now have a ready-to-print .pdf business card with all relevant drop details for easy sharing or easy recall of drop input methods
* Links & Notes In Zip Files — Links and files are now bundled in .zip files when .zip files are created
* Tutorial Videos — Drop.io now provides users with a series of tutorial videos to help new users discover how to use Drop.io
* Eliminated File Size Increase After Uploads — Fixed a bug where some files would inflate after upload.
Drop.io provides thousands of unique uses for thousands of unique people. Drop.io is not a structure, system or network – rather it is a platform that enables people to share in the most dynamic of ways.
“In a world of user generated content, sharing is dictated and pre-determined by most social networks and is predicated by advertising based models,” adds Lessin. “In other words, the more a user shares, the more opportunities there are for advertising impressions, resulting in increased advertising revenues. Drop.io returns the sharing power back to the individual and solves complex sharing issues such as ‘oversharing’ and cross- network issues. Oversharing goes beyond an individual’s intended target and shares beyond their friends, which could lead to embarrassment in front of peers, superiors, acquaintances. At drop.io, each drop that an individual creates is limited to who they wish to share it with.”
About Drop.io
Drop.io is an online file storage and sharing service that is simple and private. It allows users to create online sharing points called “drops” that are used for uploading documents, images, video, audio, and other digital content without accounts, registration or e-mail addresses. Drops are non-searchable, non-networked and never require any type of account registration. All drops can be password-protected and set to expire after a period of time. Drop.io’s core philosophy is to create a simple, private system based on inputs and outputs. Users send “in” files (documents, images, videos, audio files, archives, and more) via various methods (web, mms, email, phone and fax) into their “Drops.” Once in the drops, users can view their content and move it “out” via the web, email, mms, and fax. The service is used by a wide range of users ranging from mothers sharing baby photos to large companies using ‘drops’ as collaborative workspaces. The company was founded by Sam Lessin in 2007 and has raised $3.9 MM in financing from RRE Ventures and DFJ Gotham. For more information, visit, http://drop.io/about.
