The chairman, CEO and co-founder of online backup company Carbonite Inc. has started six companies to date. In the past, Friend has mostly focused on the business-to-business market. But these days Boston-based Carbonite, which provides backup security over the Internet, focuses squarely on the consumer market. Friend is also a music aficionado and is a trustee emeritus of the New England Conservatory and the Berklee College of Music. He is also trustee at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. All of which keeps him busy. Friend recently spoke with Boston Business Journal reporter Jesse Noyes.
