Unveils New SugarSync Cloud API for Android Developers; Releases New SugarSync for Android App with Local-to-Cloud Sync.

SugarSync Raises The Ante on Android

SAN MATEO, CALIF., December 1, 2009 - SugarSync Inc., makers of the award-winning SugarSync digital synchronization, backup and sharing platform, today announced the first cloud platform for Android, enabling third-party and handset developers to sync applications directly to their user’s data in the SugarSync cloud.

SugarSync Cloud API for Android leverages the Android Content Provider interface to allow third-party applications to access the current user’s files and data in their SugarSync account. This new ‘cloud empowering’ capability opens up many possibilities for new features for both independent Android developers, as well as for handset manufacturers looking to build advantageous features to attract buyers.

“Android apps are no longer limited to operating on files stored on the phone,” said Domingo Mihovilovic, vice president of engineering at SugarSync. “The SugarSync Cloud API for Android platform offers developers a way to turn any app into a cloud service almost instantly. We look forward to engaging with this creative and imaginative community and seeing how they leverage SugarSync to benefit their users.”

In other Android news, the company also released a new version of SugarSync’s end-user Android app, featuring the ability to sync files and folders to-and-from the smartphone’s SD card, the user’s SugarSync cloud account and other devices. In the next few weeks, a second SugarSync update will be released, featuring the ability to stream a user’s music and video directly to their Android devices.

“No doubt, Android-based smartphones are hot this holiday season,” said Laura Yecies, chief executive officer at SugarSync. “Mobile devices in general are driving the demand for sync services as people look for ways to have all their data at their fingertips. Add SugarSync, and Android users have unfettered offline access to synced data - critical for travelers who may not always have a strong 3G or wireless connection.”

SugarSync is a flexible syncing and online backup service providing always-connected consumers and busy professionals a powerful way to organize, manage, share and access all their files on-the-go, instantly and securely from any Mac, PC or mobile device. SugarSync can sync files in any folder to seamlessly map the way people organize their folders and manage their digital lives. SugarSync’s collaboration tools also allow users to share any folder or file with limited or unlimited access to anyone they choose.

SugarSync supports virtually all computer and smartphone operating systems, including Windows, Mac, Android, iPhone, BlackBerry, and WinMo. This breadth of support ensures that users can choose to work from virtually any device from any location.
