Carbonite®, a leader in online backup, is bridging the iPhone to computer gap with a newly available Carbonite iPhone application allowing users to browse, view and share backed-up files remotely at any time.

Features of the new Carbonite iPhone app include:

  • Browse: Users can browse backed-up files via an iPhone or iPod Touch.
  • View: Files of all types, including PDFs, images, audio and video files, Excel files and Word documents, can be viewed anywhere at any time.
  • Share: Users can attach a file to an email with a single tap. Once uploaded and attached to an email, the file can be edited using the iPhone or iPod Touch interface.

CEO David Friend, says “Carbonite now allows you to use your iPhone or iPod Touch to access and share any file and any of your computers.  You can view any kind of office application files, play music and videos, view photos, and so forth.  You can email your files right from the phone, too.  The iPhone app caches your PC’s directory structure for very fast browsing.  It’s fast, fun, and simple.”

Online backup companies continue to develop product innovations to meet the ever-changing needs of consumers who are seeking flexible and efficient productivity tools as an extension of their business or home offices.

The feature rich trend in the industry is growing. Some of the online backup providers like MemoPal, IDrive, SOS Online Backup, LiveDrive and others have added iPhone features to their offerings recently. Such new features, in addition to online backup, bring real value added services to the consumers. It is becoming evident that online backup services have matured and are not just confined to just PC backups anymore.

Carbonite allows customers to back up their photos, music, documents and other valuable files using an encrypted system and secure servers. Once the initial data upload is complete, users can simply recover and restore files using the Carbonite Restore Wizard (including remote access from other computers) or the iPhone app.

The new iPhone app is free to install for current Carbonite users and is available on iTunes App Store. Carbonite Online Backup is currently available for $54.95 per year. For new customers, a free 15-day trial of Carbonite is available at www.carbonite.com.
