Iron Mountain’s CloudRecovery Solution includes Support for DPM 2010, Increased Scalability, and Added Disaster Protection across Microsoft applications such as Hyper-V, Exchange, SharePoint, and SQL Server
BOSTON, Apr 19, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Iron Mountain Incorporated, an information management services company, today announced a new release of its CloudRecovery(R) solution for Microsoft(R) System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM). With Iron Mountain’s CloudRecovery solution, Microsoft DPM customers can automatically protect their business data with Iron Mountain’s secure cloud for short-and long-term, off-site storage. This release includes support for DPM 2010, multi-terabyte scalability and new options for additional data protection.
“Since announcing our strategic relationship with Microsoft in January 2009 to offer DPM customers the CloudRecovery solution, we have made significant enhancements to support the continuous data protection and disaster recovery of Microsoft platforms to the cloud,” said Ramana Venkata, president, Iron Mountain Digital, the company’s technology arm. “Our customers’ changing needs for storing, managing and utilizing information on-premises and in the cloud, requires innovative hybrid information management solutions like Iron Mountain CloudRecovery.”
The new release of Iron Mountain CloudRecovery will provide support for DPM 2010 in addition to continued support for DPM 2007 with Service Pack 1. To support rapid corporate data growth, the solution also provides increased scalability — protecting multi-terabyte servers.
“We need to have systems that are always on, and always available. This is especially true when it comes to the backup and recovery needs of our Microsoft applications — including Exchange, SQL, and SharePoint,” said Alan Bourassa, CIO, Empire CLS. “The seamless integration between Microsoft DPM and Iron Mountain CloudRecovery is ideal for addressing these requirements and we are looking forward to taking advantage of the new features that will be available with the new release.”
With this new release, Iron Mountain CloudRecovery customers now have an extra layer of disaster protection with an ability to restore the DPM SQL Server database in addition to DPM data. Other new options include an on-site Iron Mountain TurboRestore appliance with Data Shuttle services for quickly backing up and restoring data, which allows customers to ship an appliance for sending and receiving large volumes of data without burdening their networks.
Iron Mountain and Microsoft have a strategic relationship that is focused on helping customers reduce the risks and costs of managing their information. Iron Mountain provides a broad range of information management solutions, which address data protection, archiving, compliance and eDiscovery needs, for a wide range of Microsoft platforms including Microsoft Windows(R) 7, Microsoft Server 2008, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SharePoint(R), and Microsoft System Center. The Iron Mountain information management solutions are available as on-premise, cloud and hybrid solutions.
“Over the past year, Microsoft and Iron Mountain have been working together to extend System Center Data Protection Manager capabilities to the enterprise, so customers can safely and securely store and manage their data online and off-site,” said Paul Ross, group product marketing manager, System Center Marketing at Microsoft Corp. “With Microsoft DPM 2010 and the new version of CloudRecovery from Iron Mountain, customers can get the benefits of Iron Mountain’s seamless integration to DPM backed up to Iron Mountain’s secure data centers, along with a host of new DPM 2010 enhancements.”
“All but the most risk-inclined organizations adopt a data protection strategy that includes an off-site copy of data for recovery. As more companies adopt a local disk-based backup strategy, the option of leveraging cloud storage services for an off-premises copy becomes a more popular choice,” said Lauren Whitehouse, senior analyst, Enterprise Strategy Group. “Iron Mountain’s CloudRecovery solution provides an extra layer of protection to the data that Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager captures and stores, backed by a trusted cloud services provider. With this new release, Microsoft DPM customers can achieve seamless integration with the Iron Mountain cloud.”
The Iron Mountain CloudRecovery solution can natively protect the DPM server and data through automatic and secure transmission to Iron Mountain’s underground data centers. The solution extends the capacity of the on-site DPM server by providing automated, reliable online backup and archiving of DPM-protected data, with the flexibility for customers to choose their data retention policies ranging from 30 days to 7 years.
