The Marketing Team

Carbonite’s marketing team has driven 90 percent of the company’s revenue over the past four years through online marketing, direct response advertising, PR, and partner programs. We pride ourselves on our ability to market subscription-based services using consumer methods (online and offline).

The Position

The Acquisition Marketing Manager (AMM) will report to the Director of Acquisition Marketing (DAM) and be responsible for the planning, management and results of the direct-to-consumer marketing initiatives that drive new customer acquisition ($20MM+ budget). The AMM will work closely with the DAM and agency partners to set strategy and will own day-to-day management of offline and online media programs, including media and target analysis, competitive analysis, ad trafficking, reporting and optimization. S/he will regularly interface with internal teams (creative, engineering, customer support, conversion marketing) and external partners (agencies, consultants) to streamline communications and maximize efficiency and ROI of all advertising efforts. By helping the company achieve aggressive subscriber acquisition targets, the AMM will contribute significantly to Carbonite’s market value as we prepare for a possible IPO over the next 12 to 24 months.

Your Primary Objectives

First 90 days

  • Quickly come up to speed on Carbonite’s products, advertising programs and the online backup market
  • Gain in-depth knowledge of in-house measurement tools/processes and take ownership of reporting on campaign effectiveness
  • Improve/create processes to enhance cross-team communication and efficiency
  • Take ownership of creative trafficking

Three to six months

  • Assume day-to-day project management role for implementation of media programs
  • Assist with setting up testing and tracking mechanisms to help optimize media programs
  • Work closely with communications team to streamline process for creative requests
  • Help design test plans to test new media

Six to eighteen months

  • Manage the $20MM+ media budget, own the results (with the DAM)
  • Work with Affiliate Marketing Manager and Search Marketing Manager to facilitate coordinated cross-channel optimization of messaging to target audience
  • Work closely with Product Management team on helping translate new product development and target research into actionable media recommendations
  • Help maintain cross-team (Acquisition-Conversion-Retention-Communications) feedback loop to share learnings and optimize brand messaging to improve ROI
  • Assist with management of billing and reconciliation
  • Help work on international rollout of direct-to-consumer marketing initiatives
  • Continually work to test/measure/optimize all of our media programs in order to steadily scale up spending while maintaining efficiencies

Key Challenges You Will Overcome

  • Come up to speed quickly on existing advertising initiatives in a fast-paced environment
  • Understand how to manipulate back-end measurement system to analyze the data
  • Learn to work with our web development group and its AGILE development methodology to manage implementation needs (landing pages, tracking pixels, reporting enhancements, etc.)

How Your Success Will Be Measured

  • Ramp up speed and ability to take ownership of existing programs quickly
  • Subscriber acquisition metrics (incentive compensation will depend on achieving targets)
  • Improved cross-team communication and efficiency

Desired Skills and Experience

  • 3-6 years of experience at agency or on client-side marketing team working on both online and offline marketing initiatives
