Sep 10, 2010 — (BUSINESS WIRE) — IBC 2010, Amsterdam RAI (Hall 7 Stand G11)—At IBC 2010, Aspera, Inc. today introduced three new software products that expand the Aspera ecosystem for transporting and managing digital assets at maximum speed regardless of file size, transfer distance or network conditions. The new solutions – Aspera Sync, Aspera Orchestrator and Aspera Mobile Uploader – help film, broadcast and digital media producers synchronize large file repositories with maximum speed across global networks, automate even the most complex transfer workflows, and extend the faspâ„¢ transport speed and efficiency to mobile users on challenging wireless networks.

To service the rising number of Aspera technology deployments throughout the EMEA, the company has also announced the addition of dedicated local customer support in Europe and local sales engineering in Asia-Pacific, and is previewing a new online portal for global customer support and knowledge exchange.

At IBC 2010, Aspera will also be giving attendees an early look at its next-generation reliable multicast transport solution currently under development, and will be demonstrating ultra high-speed WAN transfer solutions with major storage vendors EMC, HP, and Isilon, and cloud computing leader Amazon Web Services.

New Products at a Glance
Aspera Sync is a new continuous file synchronization application built on Aspera’s patented fasp transport technology. It sets new standards for high-speed, multi-site, multi-directional synchronization of large file sets over the wide area, while matching the security and reliability standards of the Aspera software portfolio for high-performance file transfer. Aspera Sync is designed for all types of data replication workflows, remote backup and disaster/recovery implementations, and is available in beta release at IBC 2010.

Aspera Orchestrator 1.0 is a new web based application and SDK platform for creating and managing automated Aspera file transfer workflows including third-party media applications and services (both on-premise or cloud-based) such as transcoding, quality control and digital marking. On preview at IBC, the new software includes an interactive designer for easy authoring of complex workflow sequences, a browser interface for monitoring active workflows, and a library of plug-ins for leading transcoding, QC, and digital fingerprinting vendors. The system powers workflows ranging from automatic file forwarding after upload to full-blown workflow process orchestration, and makes automation of complex transfer workflows built on Aspera transfers easy and tractable.

Aspera Mobile Uploader, the first product in the fasp-AIRâ„¢ mobile line, enables companies to empower their remote news professionals and user contributors with high-speed file transfers to and from mobile devices up to 3 times faster than regular TCP over typical 3G networks and up to 100 times faster over high bandwidth 802.11 WiFi connections to long haul WANs. Now available through the iTunes App Store, the new application allows iPhone and iPad users to upload content generated on their device to a mobile-enabled Aspera server (including Aspera On-Demand for Amazon Web Services).

  • Easy-to-use uploader app that directly accesses the iPhone picture and video library

Under development is fasp-MC, Aspera’s next-generation reliable multicast transport solution that will be available for a sneak peek at IBC. Designed for large-scale deployments such as digital cinema, VOD or digital signage, fasp-MC is a new point-to-multipoint transport protocol for IP multicast networks, and brings the speed and bandwidth efficiency of Aspera technology to multicast distribution applications.

Multiple storage vendors, including EMC, HP and Isilon, have recently introduced breakthrough solutions with Aspera fasp transport technology running on commodity hardware, for transfers of large media files and file sets over worst-case global Internet conditions at several Gigabits per second in a single transfer stream.
