Museum IT Professionals Use CoreVault Cloud Backup Powered by Asigra to Align the Value of Information with Museum Objectives for Highly Efficient Data Protection

TORONTO – October 13, 2010 – Asigra Inc., a leading Cloud Backup™ and recovery software provider since 1986 and CoreVault, an industry leader in providing data protection services, today announced that the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum has been selected by Storage Networking World (SNW) and the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) as a finalist in its “Best Practices” Awards Program in the category of Storage Resiliency, Data Protection and Recovery. The SNW “Best Practices” awards recognize achievements in business IT innovation.

The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City is America’s premier institution of Western history, art and culture. Since its opening more than half a century ago, the museum has amassed an expansive inventory of collections, more than 158,000 archive images, and 355,000 records, detailed membership information and library catalogs. Protection of this data, in addition to normal business data including financial records, spreadsheets, correspondence and calendars, is essential to daily operations. The museum’s previous tape backup process had become increasingly cumbersome and unreliable. Tape backups were scheduled daily, but maintaining these backups easily consumed the IT department’s valuable time. After looking at the cost of materials, loss of productivity and the impact to operations due to the slow response of the system, the Museum chose cloud backup services by CoreVault powered by Asigra as its preferred solution.

“We made our decision to work with CoreVault because they presented a solution that would enable the elimination of tape backup which had become a drain on our resources,” said Susan Adams, Assistant Director of Development for Corporations and Foundations for the museum. “After touring their state-of-the-art facility and learning more about Asigra, we were certain that our data would be secure in the hands of experts. We have now protected a significant amount of information and are increasing the amount under management on a regular basis. The data protection CoreVault and Asigra provide is critical.”

Using advanced cloud backup services, the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum has benefitted from a three-tier storage architecture managed by CoreVault and powered by Asigra Cloud Backup software. CoreVault has implemented a customized strategy for the museum that enables them to utilize three tiers of storage to protect and manage museum data with recovery levels based on file type and access requirements. Under this approach, data moves automatically and efficiently from the online tier to the nearline tier and then eventually to the offline tier, reducing the overall cost of data protection.

“The SNW ‘Best Practices’ award is a well respected distinction and we are pleased to see that a user of Asigra-powered Cloud Backup has been recognized as a finalist,” said Amrita Chandra, senior director of corporate marketing for Asigra. “We are honored that the museum has been chosen for its adoption of cloud backup to simplify and improve the reliability of its ability to recover quickly when data loss occurs.”

“The services team at CoreVault is happy to see the efforts of our team as well as our customer and technology partner recognized for achievements in safeguarding information that is important to the heritage of our country,” said Jeff Cato, vice president of marketing for CoreVault. “For the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum cloud backup is exactly the approach they required to protect the historical records of Western culture without the complexity and uncertain nature of so many other solutions.”
