KineticD, Online Data Backup Specialist, Acquires ROBOBAK
Toronto based online data backup specialist, KineticD (formerly known as Data Deposit Box), has acquired ROBOBAK for undisclosed amount. An official press release has been issued today announcing the acquisition.
And now amidst all the excitement surrounding this latest announcement, one pauses to wonder about the why and wherefore of the acquisition. What strengths will be gained by KineticD? What does the future hold for ROBOBAK?
KineticD, which we reviewed recently, was established in 2002 by Acpana Busines Systems to address the needs of the online data protection market. Since then, the company has pioneered a number of unique cloud based data backup and recovery technologies that are used by more than 40,000 customers and supported by extensive partner networks.
KineticD has a long and avowed mission of coupling extensible data management technologies and best practices to create powerful online solutions that cut across budgets and platforms to provide unmatchable security and accessibility to businesses wherever they are.
With its acquisition of ROBOBAK, KineticD is obviously planning to broaden its product and service suite offerings; and acquire an edge over the competition. KineticD hopes to improve its SaaS offerings and reach out to SMBs, MSPs, OEM partners, SMB resellers and others with a more robust, flexible, distributed network backup and recovery solution.
KineticD ostensibly sees a growing market for disaster readiness solutions, including file servers and commonly used server side applications such as Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server and Microsoft Small Business Server. The agentless, ROBOBAK disk-to-disk-to-cloud backup technology with block level de-duplication capabilities and rapid recovery potential is an ideal addition to KineticD’s repository of cloud based services.
KineticD plans to integrate the ROBOBAK technology into its own offering to provide continuous, non-invasive agentless backup of servers, networks and server side applications to its existing and acquired customer / partner base. The majority of the ROBOBAK team will be absorbed by KineticD with no interruption to the day to day operations of the acquired company.
As cloud online data backup companies search to expand their offerings and stay competitive in the industry, we at BackupReview.info think that there will be more M&A activities in 2011 and in the years to come.
Our congratulations go to both KineticD and ROBOBAK.
