By Ezra Brook, editor – Pioneering Online Community for Backup and Disaster Recovery Professionals website is intended to be vendor neutral is a new online community that will cater to the needs of data backup and recovery professionals! The new site,, fills in a lacuna that was being increasingly felt by VARs and MSPs.

Of course, one may question how this will be different from the thousands of technical forums that have been launched and patronized by avid technologists, backup professionals and their ilk. asserts that this community will be different, focusing on the strategies and tactics used in backup as it relates to specific business outcomes. This community is the first of its kind, a distinction that is underscored by quality of content that finds its way onto the site. The site could also help beginners as well as those with less experience in the data backup industry. strongly believes that professionals, who are serious about backup and recovery, will find the site a wonderful place to meet and exchange information on the subjects that attract their interests most.

Samantha Morris, Community Manager, is overseeing the kickoff discussions and has seeded the first forum discussions on Security and Compliance, Better Backup Management, Backup Virtualization, and Data Recovery. However, the site users are actively engaged and the buzz is really deafening. Seeded discussion threads are quickly approaching triple digits for each forum, along with users starting their own threads in increasing numbers.

At the last count, there were a large number of registered Backup Heroes just waiting to read, discuss and get the ball rolling! The site has all the tools for social interaction. The backup heroes can register for the RSS feeds, build up their profile or privately message other community members.

Although sponsored by Asigra, it is not an Asigra community and is intended to be vendor agnostic. The Community Manager, Samantha Morris, is actively moderating the community to ensure that community members are being wooed into generic conversations about Backup and Recovery and are warned not to blow the trumpet of any specific vendor. Ms. Morris is keeping a finger on the pulse and watching over the proceedings with a maternal eye. She ungrudgingly spends time nudging the discussions in the right direction to ensure that the discussions remain vendor neutral and are sufficiently broad in scope to cover multi-level industry perspectives.

The general expectation is that success will not elude this forum. Backup and Recovery professionals who have joined the discussions are increasingly realizing the potential of the forum. The site has a peer review tool that will help them grow professionally and establish themselves as an expert in the field. The quality and quantity of posts is ranked by their peers and their ideas are validated and supported by the views of other similarly experienced professionals.

With data protection more important than ever, provides an interactive resource where companies can find backup professionals to help them with their own business continuity and disaster recovery needs so they ensure their own business outcomes.

The forum has strict guidelines and as such any kind of advertisement pitch will not be allowed. Users are advised to stay on topics of discussion, or otherwise start a new thread for a specific topic. is really a great resourceful website and we look forward to contribute to and learn from the industry professionals.
