Vembu Technologies and Data Clone Labs helps Cash-Strapped City of Reno Upgrade Backup Systems

Carson City, NV, April 21, 2011 –/– Japan’s wrenching recovery from a massive earthquake and tsunami has highlighted the need for governments everywhere to be ready for a disaster. Being prepared includes the ability to recover documents, as became apparent in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, when huge numbers of paper and electronic files went missing – everything was destroyed — from critical property records to the dental x-rays needed to identify the dead.

The City of Reno, Nevada, is among many local governments that have taken steps to ensure that a disaster would not leave the community without records. But two years ago, a developing budget crisis forced the purchase of a software version that did not include the future option to upgrade, as improved versions became available. The purchase of multiple Data Clone Vaults powered by Vembu Technologies software without that option left the City without some time saving features that were added to the service in 2011.

This year, Reno’s IT department faces a sharp staffing reduction even as there’s more data than ever that must be stored and must continue to be accessible in the event of fires, floods or man-made disasters. Meanwhile, budget cuts precluded an upgrade to the newest, most efficient Vembu Technologies software.

The crisis led the company and its Nevada-based reseller, Data Clone Labs,to step forward with a budget-friendly solution – free software upgrade and a no-charge upgrade installation.

Nevadans are learning to be creative as they deal with this fiscal crisis, said Ira Victor, Compliance Director with Data Clone Labs.We recognized the challenge Reno is facing, and we helped them get the upgrade because it’s the right thing to do. I’m a member of this community, but beyond that, it’s good karma from a business perspective.

Vembu Software’s US arm is a Nevada-registered corporation specializing in business backup and disaster recovery software. “We appreciate The City of Reno’s business and we want to show it in good times and bad”, said Vembu’s Manager – Product Marketing, Lenin Srinivasan. “It reiterates the fact that Vembu has been on the dot in putting together features in the online backup software that makes it secure, reliable and yet very cost effective. Our local resellers like Data Clone Labs help us identify better the needs of key customers like the City of Reno and that has immensely helped the product to evolve over the years” The upgrade process was completed this month, with data protection remaining in force.
