Johannesburg, South Africa, May 17, 2011 –/– Altech Technology Concepts (ATC), a provider of communications services and solutions to businesses in sub-Saharan Africa, now offers affordable online backup for organisations of all sizes. This mitigates the risk of data loss and corruption that can so easily happen when critical information is housed in digital form on hard disk arrays and other storage hardware.

ATC’s online backup is a managed service developed on top of the company’s own robust network. Like its increasingly popular broadband offering, the backup service does not bind users into contracts; that turns what is often a grudge purchase into an accessible service with a billing model that makes it affordable for everyone by charging per gigabyte of data stored.

“A sound backup and archiving strategy is fundamental to good business practice, regardless of the size of your company,” says Wayne de Nobrega, CEO at Altech Technology Concepts. “King III sets clear guidelines for the management of company data and places the responsibility for IT governance firmly on directors. One of the key requirements of the report is that a company needs to be able to prove its ability to recover from a disaster.

But implementing and maintaining a business continuity strategy in an environment in which data volumes are exploding and the demand for storage is skyrocketing can be prohibitively expensive, he adds. “Our online backup service addresses that by providing a totally secure data protection service that is within reach of any business.”

Because it is delivered as a managed service, customers do not pay for hardware and software or for additional technical support staff, and because the solution is also scalable it can grow along with the business. All types of files can be backed up across any medium including ADSL and leased line services.

“ATC customers can leverage from our existing server and network infrastructures to back up critical information,” says de Nobrega. “By using this service, businesses have the advantage of knowing that their data is stored in an off-site data vault and is impervious to any disaster that might strike their own premises.”

ATC uses i365 e-Vault software, making it one of the most reliable managed backup services in the market today, according to de Nobrega. Because it employs a combination of data compression and delta processing to reduce the amount of physical data moved across the network during a backup operation, it is also highly efficient. There’s the option of a local vault onsite, encrypted with a key controlled by the customer, which replicates to an appropriate storage server located in one of the ATC data centres for customers with more complex data backup needs. Backed-up data is accessible from wherever a customer requires.

“As a fully managed service, it basically runs itself. ATC engineers will monitor any failures and take the necessary corrective action so that customers can focus on their business needs and not their technology issues,” says de Nobrega.
