Cirrus Thinking, makers of Dolly Drive online backup for Mac, is offering 1000 college students free online storage to help encourage them to backup their papers, projects and schoolwork online using Apple’s Time machine as part of their Back To School preparation. The ReBoot & Rally promo is aimed at showing college students the ease of backing up their work offsite if they have a Mac. The offer includes the chance to win $1000. Dolly Drive was awarded MacLife Magazine’s Best of Show and Best Software at MacWorld 2011.

Miami, FL, Sept 02, 2011 –/– College is all fun and games until someone loses an eyeball. Or a term paper. Or a semester worth of notes. Cloud services provider Cirrus Thinking is giving 1000 college students 1 free gig of Dolly Drive, online storage for Apple Time Machine, plus the chance to win $1000 in college spending money, in an effort to encourage students to backup their papers, projects and schoolwork online.

The Dolly Drive service uses Apple’s native backup application, Time Machine, which automatically saves and archives selected content notes every hour, to backup the content to the cloud. As long as the Mac is connected to the internet, the content gets backed up offsite without the user even having to think about it.

“College students are constantly on the move with their laptops and probably not thinking about ‘What if’ scenarios like losing their papers, projects and schoolwork to a crash, spilled coffee, or theft,’’ said Anthony Palermo, CEO of Dolly Drive. “But if we can just get them to set up their Mac’s Time Machine to backup their schoolwork to Dolly Drive, as they get ready for the semester, then we feel can save them from lost paper nightmares. The chance to win $1000 hopefully helps encourage them as well.”

The ReBoot&Rally contest includes the chance to win $1000 by tweeting a special message on Twitter. That message can be found on

Students can also download the already free Dolly Clone application [] which makes an exact duplicate of a Mac on an external drive, so if anything goes wrong with the Mac, they can just Reboot right away, and keep going from where they were.

Dolly Drive is a subscription software and online storage service designed for Apple’s Time Machine. In addition to providing Mac users offsite cloud storage directly through the Time Machine application, the application allows users to create a bootable clone of your Mac on an external hard drive for local disaster recovery. It works with Apple’s Lion and Snow Leopard platforms. Launched in January, Dolly Drive was named MacLife magazine’s Best of Show and Best Software at MacWorld 2011.
