Company Gains Traction With Multiple Number One Rankings, Key Product Releases, and New Leadership

ALISO VIEJO, Calif., Dec. 13, 2011 –/BackupReview.info/– Quest Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: QSFT)

With data growing at astronomical rates, IT budgets shrinking, virtualization and cloud infrastructures adding an increasing layer of complexity, and service level agreements becoming more demanding than ever before, data protection professionals are left facing a daunting challenge. By delivering an integrated set of backup and recovery solutions spanning SMB to enterprise, and designed to meet today’s most salient customer needs across physical, virtual and cloud environments, Quest Software continues to gain traction in the data protection marketplace.

The momentum has been spurred by a number of accomplishments, most notably a pair of number one rankings in recent analyst reports, continued leadership in the virtual data protection space, and a number of critical new product releases and integrations. NetVault® Backup, a cross-platform, enterprise-level backup and recovery tool, and the flagship of Quest’s NetVault product line, ranked number one for Linux backup in Japan in a recent IDC report. Analyst firm DCIG also ranked NetVault Backup as the number one Oracle backup software solution for 2011. Recent product releases of note include NetVault Backup 8.6, which enhances enterprise backup and recovery by delivering increased speed, scalability and platform support, and vRanger® 5.3, which combines best-in-class VMware backup, replication and recovery with enterprise-grade deduplication.

Additionally, this summer, Quest welcomed new leadership with the hiring of Walter Angerer as senior vice president and general manager, data protection. Angerer spent the previous six years in various enterprise data protection leadership positions with Symantec, most recently as vice president of appliance and cloud engineering. At Quest, he oversees all aspects of the data protection solution, including the NetVault, vRanger and LiteSpeed® product lines.

“We’re very excited with the vision and direction of our data protection business, and with the momentum we’ve built in recent months,” said Doug Garn, CEO and president, Quest Software. “Walter Angerer is a veteran of enterprise software development who brings significant industry experience in backup and recovery to Quest. We are thrilled to have him leading the way as we continue building out a world-class data protection solution.”

Multiple Analyst Firms Rank NetVault Backup Number One

· NetVault Backup ranked number one for Linux Backup in Japan in a recent market share report from IDC titled, “Japan Storage Software 2011?2015 Forecast and 2010 Analysis” (Doc #J11440103)[i]

o NetVault ranked number one with a 61.3 percent share of the data protection/recovery software market for Linux operating systems.

o NetVault ranked fourth overall with a 7.7 percent share of the total Japanese data protection/recovery software market.

· NetVault Backup ranked number one in DCIG’s new 2011 Oracle Backup Software Solutions Buyer’s Guide

o This independent, third-party report compared competing Oracle backup software solutions, with NetVault Backup the only product to receive the coveted “Best-in-Class” ranking. NetVault was specifically recognized for its strong breadth of Oracle Backup Support and overall Oracle integration, as well as its advanced integration with Oracle (RMAN), Data Guard, and RAC.

o NetVault Backup offers the industry’s broadest Oracle support and strongest Oracle integration, enabling customers to simplify backup and recovery of business-critical Oracle databases, create comprehensive and flexible backup policies, and minimize downtime by speeding up restores.

o NetVault Backup delivers increased flexibility with the choice between simple user-managed or full featured RMAN backups, and enables rapid, granular restores to recover complete databases, individual tablescapes or individual datafiles.

Industry Recognition for LiteSpeed

· Quest data protection took home two notable industry awards when editors and readers of Penton Media’s SQL Server Magazine honored LiteSpeed for SQL Server with an Editor’s Choice Silver Award and Community Choice Bronze Award in the best backup and recovery software product category.

o LiteSpeed for SQL Server reduces customers’ storage footprint by up to 85 percent more than other compressed, full backup solutions, and does so with a Fast Compression technology that deduplicates data at the server level during backups, enabling users to maintain optimal performance.

Continued Leadership in Virtual Data Protection with vRanger

· Earlier this month, Quest announced the general availability of vRanger 5.3, which delivers full integration with NetVault SmartDisk, enabling customers to combat data growth by significantly reducing the size of their backups, at a fraction of the cost of similar hardware-based approaches to deduplicating VMware backups.

o vRanger 5.3 delivers extended support for VMware’s vSphere 5, providing enhanced support for backup and restore of VMFS 5 (SAN and LAN). Earlier this fall, vRanger become one of the first products to formally receive VMware Ready™ logo certification for vSphere 5.

o The new release also delivers numerous performance enhancements, including replication speeds up to two times faster than earlier versions, and LAN compressed backups that are up to four times faster, as well as replication support for user snapshots, and backup catalog wildcard search functionality.

o Version 5.3 marked the fourth major release of vRanger in calendar year 2011, underscoring Quest’s renewed commitment to agile product development.

· This fall, Quest surpassed the 40,000 customer plateau for vRanger, with the product now responsible for protecting more than 200,000 terabytes of VMware data across the world.

Key Releases and New Cross-Product Integrations Deliver Enhanced Functionality

· In addition to vRanger 5.3, Quest also recently announced the release of NetVault Backup 8.6, which speeds restores from incremental backups by 50 percent on average, and NetVault SmartDisk 1.5, which takes deduplication a step further by supporting backups from network-attached storage appliances.

· Quest has also completed a number of critical integrations among its portfolio of backup and recovery products, enabling it to deliver enhanced functionality and capabilities to its growing base of data protection customers.

o In addition to its integration with NetVault SmartDisk, vRanger is now also integrated with Quest Recovery Manager for SharePoint (RMSP), setting a new standard in application-level recovery within VMware environments by enabling customers to conduct a single-step, granular restore from a complete virtual machine backup.

o Similar integration between vRanger and Recovery Manager for Exchange (RME) is expected to be generally available early in 2012. Both Recovery Manager products are available alongside vRanger in a single, cost-effective bundle by way of Quest’s recently launched Total Virtual Data Protection suite.

o In addition, NetVault Backup is now also integrated with RMSP and RME, extending Quest’s single source solution and providing granular recovery capabilities for critical business environments.
