Securstore Online Data Backup Expert Tips: Does the Cloud Create or Kill Jobs?
With memories of recession still haunting the job market, new technologies are suspect ‘job killers’. However, the facts do not justify the fears. Scholarly studies, by IDC (commissioned by Microsoft) show that the cloud is expected to generate 14 million jobs by 2015 and $1.1 trillion in business revenues!
The Cloud is a Job Creator, not a Killer
Enterprises transitioning to cloud technologies are expanding the scope of operations in weeks rather than months. They are using the technology not only for creating cloud based collaboration systems for internal use, but also sharing information with partners and vendors. They are not so obsessed with maintaining technology as using technology optimally for driving revenue for the business. They are focusing attention on ways and means of connecting the disparate branches of the enterprise and linking together mobile workforce or expanding their reach by contacting their vendors over an integrated, scalable, highly available, network that is powered by cloud based technologies. The jobs that are getting created are the ones that will help the enterprise get the cloud and its services out to its customers, vendors, partners and employees!
Interestingly, experts predict that new jobs will emerge in proportion to the size of the industry. Small and medium enterprises which dominate the Professional and retail industry will show agility in the adoption of the cloud. A large number of new job opportunities will hit the market in this sector. The more security conscious industries like banking and financial services will be slower to adopt the cloud and the job market in this sector will grow slowly and cautiously. Communication and Media –which are best suited to the cloud—will spew out a number of jobs. The growth of the mobile market, the “social” trends in online marketing will fuel the market and create opportunities that were hitherto not dreamt of.
