Does Google Drive know best when it comes to online collaboration? Industry expert Shayne Mehringer of FilesAnywhere weighs in on the recent news.

Bedford, TX, April 27, 2012 –/– This week Google announced its newest offering, Google Drive. The launch of Google Drive, a cloud-based file storage and synchronization tool, places Google’s hat in the ring with other file sharing services. But does Google Drive know best when it comes to online collaboration? In response, Vice President of Sales and Client Services at FilesAnywhere, Shayne Mehringer, gave this statement:

“Google is king when it comes to Internet searching, and websites around the world count on them for outstanding targeted advertising abilities. However, this doesn’t necessarily make them right for the business and consumer file storage market. Oversaturation in the online storage and collaboration market is actually a good thing for us. Smart, professional consumers and corporations will now be forced to do their homework. When comparing feature set, security, and reliability, FilesAnywhere is the obvious winner.

“Google Drive (GDrive), SkyDrive, Box, SugarSync, etc… are all vying to be the Wal-Mart of online data storage. We say have at it. That’s not who we are or who we want to be. Anyone in retail will tell you that you can’t out Wal-Mart, Wal-Mart. We deliver Neiman Marcus quality and service—Isilon storage, dedicated private clouds, managed services, and compliance driven data protection—at very fair prices.

“We’ve been augmenting and enhancing our feature set, and fine tuning our world-class security for more than 13 years, giving us a deep and loyal customer base. You will not read about FilesAnywhere receiving millions in Venture Capital to buy our name in this industry or to become relevant. We pioneered this industry and stand strong behind our product and customers. At the end of the day, there can only be one Wal-Mart, and we’re not interested in the loose and fast, quantity over quality battle. We were here long before them and we’ll be here after they have moved on to the next in-vogue offering.

“Furthermore, free always comes with a cost. Whether it’s a security breach or server downtime, both are a high price to pay for a free service. What motivation do they have to monitor and maintain servers that are simply a loss-leader for their advertising channels? There is already a great deal of concern on how Google will access and use your data to further grow their real business—target advertising. According to reports released last week, Google Drive’s ToS allows for this very thing. We at FilesAnywhere could not disagree more.

“FilesAnywhere is a smarter way to collaborate online between employees, customers, vendors, and contractors. We want our customers to focus on running their business, not worrying if their data is secure. Our SOC 3 data center meets stringent compliance standards, which allow our customers to meet HIPAA, GLBA, SSAE 16, SOX, and other regulatory standards. From online storage to Service Oriented Architecture, FilesAnywhere has 13 years of global success.
