KineticD Online Data Backup Expert Tips: Why SSAE 16 is Important to KineticD

When looking into having any amount of your SMB’s data management infrastructure exported to the cloud, there can often understandably be some concerns about the stability and reliability of the services that are supplied by cloud vendors. After all, no amount of casual analysis or Internet research can give you a 100% solid insight into the true quality and integrity of the infrastructures of online data backup and cloud computing service providers. Luckily, however, there are universal standards that cloud vendors can strive for that, once officially achieved, can serve as indisputable statistical proof that their systems are indeed of the rock solid nature they might claim them to be, and of the most well regarded of these system assessment procedures is that of “SSAE 16″.

SSAE 16, which stands for “Statements on Standards for Attestation Engagements“, is an auditing protocol that shares many of the same elements with another one that preceded it entitled “SAS 70″, or “Statement on Auditing Standards No. 70″. Both are procedures that auditing organizations perform for companies so as to make sure that their levels of financial and data security are truly and universally standardized. SSAE 16 was created by the American Institute of Certified Public Accounts (AICPA) to replace and/or enhance SAS 70, an auditing procedure that was previously considered to be of the highest order for over two decades, in order to create a more globally acceptable and relevant level of assessment of the infrastructures of businesses and organizations worldwide.

But, how exactly is SSAE an improvement on SAS? Well, to start, SSAE supplies a far more expansive and detailed assessment than SAS; with SSAE not only analyzing the systems that are in place within a given enterprise or organization, but also extending that detailed analysis to the other companies that an organization utilizes as sub-contractors or third-party specialists for various aspects of the product or service that they provide to their clients. With more and more businesses every day choosing to reach out to specialized partners across the globe in order to virtualize many aspects of their business’s workflow systems, this is truly one of the most relevant differences between these two quality assessment procedures. When analyzing these peripheral business associations the “carve-out” method may be used, in which certain aspects of analysis for these subservice organizations are satisfied by simply obtaining a previous SSAE 16 directly from that company, or the “inclusive” method might be employed, in which all subservice organizations are fully analyzed from scratch as well.

Overall, suffice it to say that SSAE is a much more expansive and detailed auditing procedure than SAS, and thus guarantees that companies fully commit to a new, much higher standard of technical excellence. We here at KineticD are sure to participate in full, yearly SSAE 16 audits because we realize that adhering to this standardization process is of the utmost importance for any company that seeks to be fully responsible for their clients’ irreplaceable and all-important digital assets. After all, perfect synchronization and security of data is what we’re all about, and so we realize that making sure that our online data backup and cloud computing services are of the highest integrity possible must indeed always be our top priority so that we can continue to supply all of our over 60,000 business users and 1000 partners with the most reliable cloud computing solutions available on the market today.
