Redesigned interface and new music player harness the cloud space of email accounts

SAN MATEO, CALIF. May 14, 2013 — / — Backup That, the first web-based service leveraging personal email accounts to provide free storage and file management unveiled its new platform today. The new platform merges file syncing and music streaming in one place. Users can upload iTunes playlists for streaming on any computer, manage versions of working files with one click, and instantly switch between the file management system and music library.

Unlike most cloud services, which cap free accounts at 2 to 5 gigabytes of space, Backup That is the first web-based service that harnesses personal email accounts to provide free, virtually unlimited storage.

“We help users access the storage they don’t realize they already have;” says Co-Founder and CEO Eli Nir, “and we save their files in a folder separate from their inbox to avoid clutter.” Since files, photos, and music live in the security of a mailbox, users can view their files from any device with email access. If more storage space is needed they can simply add another email account.

Ideal for people with large music libraries, Backup That’s new media player gives music lovers quick and easy access to their favorite tunes from any computer. Users can even spy on their friends’ playlists and see what their friends are listening to in real time. And while most music streaming services only work within the United States, Backup That streams iTunes playlists anywhere in the world where Internet is available.

“So many people already email themselves files,” explains Co-Founder and CFO Shanna McClearn. “There was no other company tapping into the potential storage of email.”

Backup That lets users sync their digital world without downloading or installing any application on their computer. Setup is fast and easy. Users just connect their email accounts, choose their files, folders, and iTunes playlists, and they’re done.
