Scalable, cross-platform solution replaces three disparate solutions; reduces time and resources spent on data management

Minneapolis – Oct. 15, 2013 – / – Code42, developers of award-winning, endpoint data protection and management solutions for consumers, businesses and the enterprise, today announced that Internet2—a member-owned, advanced technology community consisting of more than 245 U.S. universities—has experienced substantial cost savings thanks to Code42’s CrashPlan enterprise endpoint backup.

Since beginning the partnership in May and deploying CrashPlan via Code42’s public cloud, Internet2 significantly reduced the amount of IT staff time and resources spent managing endpoint and server backup. Employees have easy, secure access to protected files and can restore data on their own, without requiring the help of IT staff.

The unified, cross-platform CrashPlan solution protects Internet2’s server environment—including more than 160 Windows and Linux servers—and protects all staff laptop and desktop computers located throughout the country. A replacement to the organization’s previous, cumbersome local solution, CrashPlan’s multi-layered security encrypts data from end to end, with data access controlled via integration with Internet2’s Shibboleth open-source, identity-based authentication system.

“We’ve experienced significant cost savings from the substantial decrease in staff time needed to manage our data, particularly in how we used to offsite our server backups,” said Jeff Hagley, system administrator for Internet2. “With CrashPlan, backup is automatic now; no one is tasked with making copies of data and using Shibboleth to authenticate users is incredibly beneficial.”

Additionally, CrashPlan is available to Internet2 member institutions through Internet2’s NET+ program, which streamlines access to above-the-network services for universities and research organizations. Participating universities in the NET+ CrashPlan service validation process included: Arizona State University, Naval Postgraduate School, Stanford University, University of Notre Dame, University of Texas and University of Washington.

“CrashPlan’s recent inclusion in Internet2’s NET+ service was a great privilege on its own,” said Matthew Dornquast, co-founder and chief executive officer for Code42. “The services it provides to universities and research organizations are really important. Knowing Internet2 itself trusts us to safeguard its own sensitive data is a special honor.”
