Today, businesses –whether SMBs or Enterprises– need to make separate investments into various areas of IT, including cloud backup and data protection. However, most businesses already have some kind of appliances in their premises. So, wouldn’t it be great if they could leverage existing appliances and get the additional benefit of data protection already built in? Based on this analysis, Asigra has just started shipping out its “Asigra Cloud Backup Connector Appliance“, in partnership with Cisco.

This latest appliance leverages the Cisco Integrated Services Routers (ISR) G2 router and UCS E-Series server blade, and includes the latest version of Asigra Cloud Backup™ software. The appliance provides onsite backup data storage, and the ability to replicate to external cloud service providers, at the user’s discretion.  Enterprises will get the benefit of protecting their data both locally and in the cloud. The local backup will allow the user to immediately recover data in case of a disaster.

In a pre-release briefing with, Asigra EVP, Eran Farajun, explaines, “Asigra’s new appliance is an integrated solution for the backup and recovery needs of geographically distributed enterprises with remote and branch offices. Enterprises can now use their existing router as a backup device, which can act as a data aggregator, or as both the aggregator and the vault, depending on their needs. The appliance provides enterprises with the ability to backup to a remote data center, as well as keep a local copy for disaster recovery purposes; at the same time, it supports all cloud deployment models – private, public, and hybrid.”

Farajun continues, “The goal of this appliance is to provide businesses the best value for their money, and to save time, effort, and costs related to the provisioning of a backup infrastructure. Cisco has a number of companies listed in its cloud connector program eco-system, including Xerox, AWS, VMware, and also several Cisco’s own solutions. But, Asigra is the only backup vender listed under Cisco’s cloud connector program.”

The Asigra Cloud Backup Connector Appliance has many advantages, including:

Resource Efficient – It is agentless. Breaks the hub and spoke network design limitations, uses global de-duplication and compression, with further reduced network requirements;

Comprehensive One-stop Solution – No additional licenses for protecting particular platforms, applications, or devices and avoids the need for point solutions, and overcomes the challenges of having a single point of failure at the head office;

Assured Recoveries – auto detects and corrects logical errors, protects against data corruption, builds file in the background temporarily to ensure that it is recoverable;

Simple, Automated, Integrated – Set up automated schedules, alerts and notifications, retention policies; the system runs by itself with need for little or no manual intervention;

Maximum Security – NIST FIPS 140-2 certified encryption, HIPAA and SOX compliant, military grade AES 256 encryption;

Single Pane of Glass Management – remotely manage your entire backup infrastructure across branches, devices, operating systems, and platforms, and allows branch offices to directly connect to the cloud through cloud-connections;

Maximum Affordability – Asigra Recovery License Model (RLM) – separates the cost of backup and recovery.

The Asigra software can also be pre-installed on the Cisco 2900 and Cisco 3900 family of ISR with UCS® E-Series server modules, providing SMBs with an integrated solution for all their networking and backup needs.

The appliance ships with 2TB internal storage standard, which scales to 10TB per appliance to store compressed, de-duplicated data for local recovery. The Asigra Cloud Backup Connector Appliance (Cisco 2921 ISR, pre-installed with Asigra Cloud Backup software) is available immediately and customers can purchase the bundled solution from Avnet, authorized Cisco channel partners or Asigra Hybrid Partners.
