Cloud backup leader launches education campaign to alert SMBs about data security threats and provide guidance on how to combat Data Loss Gremlins

CHELMSFORD, MA – March 31, 2014 — /BackupReview.info/ — Intronis, Inc., provider of world-class cloud backup solutions for the IT channel, today marked World Backup Day with the unveiling of its “Data Loss Gremlins” Campaign, which features six masters of data destruction: Klepto (theft), Scratch (equipment failure), Mayhem (natural disaster), Mal (viruses), Whoopsie Daisy (user error), and Scorch (fire).

The nationwide awareness and prevention campaign is designed to inform and educate small businesses about the numerous ways they can lose their data and educate them about the importance of data backup and protection. The education campaign provides a “Gremlins Defense Kit” with tips on how to protect businesses from data loss and features a creative and fun video series on social media channels.

“World Backup Day was first introduced in 2011 to inspire the public to make regular backups of their data and files, but many SMBs still don’t realize the risk to their businesses,” said Intronis CMO Aaron Dun.  “While the value of insuring their property and liability is well understood, protecting their data – which ultimately protects their business – is rarely considered a strategic imperative.  To bring the severity of data loss to life, Intronis created the Data Loss Gremlins Campaign as a fun way to quickly explain how businesses and IT professionals can fight against and prevent data loss.”

Various industry researches show alarming facts about the importance of data backup for businesses:

  • 96 percent of all business workstations are not being backed up. (Contingency Planning and Strategic Research Corporation)
  • 30 percent of small businesses will experience a natural disaster. (NFIB)
  • 60 percent of companies that lose their data will shut down within six months of the disaster. (National Archives & Records Administration in Washington)
  • 93 percent of companies that lost their data center for 10 days or more due to a disaster filed for bankruptcy within one year of the disaster. 50 percent of businesses that found themselves without data management for this same time period filed for bankruptcy immediately. (National Archives & Records Administration in Washington)

Intronis recommends that businesses fight back and protect their data from significant threats with the help of well-prepared and proactive managed IT services providers (MSPs).

“As a trusted IT services provider, we are continually working with our customers to help them understand the value of having a data protection strategy that goes beyond simply backing up a few files to an external hard drive or a free cloud service.  We want our customers to think of data protection in the same way they think of other critical components of their business, and the Intronis’ Data Loss Gremlins give us a creative way to make the issue of data loss accessible for our customers,” said Charles Henson, vice president of Nashville Computer, a full service technology solutions provider and Intronis partner.
