Securstore Online Data Backup Expert Tips: Distributed Data Environments in the Cloud
Distributed data centers are not new and distributed Cloud based data centers are just extensions of the concept to the Cloud with a few delivery related transfigurations. Administrators need to understand that “a piece of information” can reside at multiple levels at the same time. The implication is that data distribution demands consumerization of IT and encourages “data on demand” scenarios that IT must respond to and accommodate instantly. This means larger workloads, more endpoints, more users, more security threats, greater replication efforts, and enhanced capability to deliver reliable information to the last user on the network.
Cloud technologies have made all this and more possible. Administrators can now distribute data to remote locations globally by a process of replication and creation of warm sites, hot sites, or replication sites, or geographically relevant data sites. However, data size considerations must weigh with them and they must plan on how much of data and what kind of data they want to push to the remote location. They must prioritize on the data so that the push does not result in saturation of bandwidth or breakdown of data flows.
Replication schedules must be defined to make sure that the data updates are reflected in the centralized database and replications servers. Site based data retention policies must be framed and implemented at a software level to ensure that date-stamped data is automatically archived or removed from the remote distributed data center and only vital current data is retained for business activities. Compression and de-duplication technologies must be enforced to save on disk space and reduce cost of storage.
Finally, the centralized management interface provided by the Cloud vendor must facilitate the management of remote distributed data centers in the Cloud. The software must provide clear visibility to the data and the process of its migration, retention, backup, and recovery. It should facilitate testing and report on performance. The interface must allow the administrator the capability of setting up alerts and tracking users across the distributed network.
As more and more users migrate to the Cloud, distributed computing in the Cloud will become more sophisticated. Cloud backup enablers like Asigra may keep step with the users of distributed systems and evolve Cloud-computing constructs that address every user need and offer solutions even to possible future needs.
