ADDISON, Ill. – October 02, 2014 — /BackupReview.info/ — ITsavvy, one of the fastest growing companies of its type in the U.S., just announced, together with HP, that it earned one of six HP SDN (software-defined networking) partnerships.
ITsavvy President and CEO Mike Theriault said, “I cannot underestimate this accomplishment and how thrilled we are. We have been working hard with our HP field reps over the years to create an environment of reciprocal value that ultimately benefits our clients and this SDN partnership is an excellent example.”
SDN, called a networking paradigm-shift on par with the original Google search engine, has been under development for over 15 years. The technology is an application-directed network that is centrally controlled, automated, and orchestrated using software and open protocols.
In traditional network deployments each network device has a dedicated control and forwarding plane (from control path to software), but in SDN deployments the behavior of the network is defined by software, outside of the forwarding path. The technology replaces complex, time-consuming manual configuration and provisioning with effortless automated network configuration.
In the SDN architecture, the control and data planes are decoupled, network intelligence is centralized and the underlying network infrastructure is automatically configured from the applications themselves. This greatly improves network agility, adaptability and centralizes network control. SDN also allows organizations to download previously programmed custom configurations.
SDN aligns the network with business objectives; allows for flexibility in network usage; streamlines changes; reduces operating complexity and expense; and greatly improves security.
HP’s SDN architecture:
• Has network control that can be directly programmed (it is decoupled from forwarding functions)
• Facilitates abstracting control from forwarding that allows administrators to adjust network-wide traffic flow as needs change
• Has single-switch network intelligence that is logically centralized in software-based SDN controllers that maintain a network overview
• Lets network managers efficiently configure, manage, secure, and optimize network resources through automated SDN programs that they can write (programs do not depend on proprietary software)
• Is Open Standards-based and vendor-neutral: When implemented through Open Standards, SDN simplifies network design and operation; SDN controllers, rather than multiple, vendor-specific devices and protocols provide instructions.
In short, the SDN architecture is dynamic, manageable, cost-effective, adaptable and a facilitator of today’s high-bandwidth, applications—such as big data analytics. SDN can be implemented in any network where control, security and application performance are important. Organizations can choose pure SDN or a hybrid approach (where existing switches maintain their functions).
ITsavvy Chief Operating Officer Brian Rogan explained, “SDN will assist network managers with configuration, management, security and optimization of their networks. This will lead to better application performance and reduce costs involved with network changes.”
ITsavvy is in the process of building out their SDN lab which will be used to educate clients on SDN functionality and give them hands-on experience with this groundbreaking technology. ITsavvy will start demonstrating the equipment in a few weeks.
Referring to the HP SDN partnership Theriault said, “This recognition reinforces the talent and determination of the engineering and sales teams that ITsavvy has assembled. Our clients can continue to trust that ITsavvy has mastered the skills required to grow its leadership position in the technology industry.”
