Brings high-availability storage to Docker apps to optimize DevOps build/test cycles

HOUSTON, TX – November 11, 2014 — /BackupReview.info/ — SoftNAS™, the #1 Best-Selling NAS in the Cloud, today introduced version 3.2 for SoftNAS Cloud, a full-featured, enterprise-grade NAS (Network Attached Storage) filer for private, public and hybrid clouds running on popular cloud computing platforms, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and VMware vSphere.

SoftNAS also announced Express Edition, with a usable capacity up to 1 Terabyte (TB), as well as integration with Docker, an open platform, or container, where developers can build, ship and run distributed applications.

SoftNAS Cloud for Docker provides persistent shared storage, as opposed to Docker’s native ephemeral storage, to the Docker container to ensure high-availability and scale-out clustering for DevOps professionals delivering Continuous Deployment/Integration and applications at scale. Previously, keeping the file system data for containers involved burdensome cloud-specific software or was limited to a single server with limited uptime and minimal capabilities.

“With SoftNAS Cloud, now Docker apps can use highly-available, persistent shared storage on all major platforms,” said Rick Braddy, SoftNAS CEO. “SoftNAS is excited to extend its on-demand, agile storage capabilities to Docker to further optimize the DevOps development and QA test cycle.”

Furthermore, SoftNAS’ built in snapshot and cloning capabilities work with Docker’s stored container output to streamline Continuous Deployment build/test/validate release cycles.

The introduction of SoftNAS Cloud Express Edition’s 1 TB capacity license also brings greater value to the DevOps field and the small to medium business (SMB) market. Starting at $119 per month or $0.18 per hour, SoftNAS Cloud Express rounds out the SoftNAS product line, which features SoftNAS Cloud Standard, with usable capacity up to 20 TB and SoftNAS Cloud Enterprise, up to 16 Petabytes (PB). A SoftNAS free tier is available for unlimited use on public cloud micro instances up to 20 TB, excluding cloud infrastructure charges.

“SoftNAS Cloud Express brings greater pricing flexibility to the cloud consumer and greater value to businesses with less data that still need the reliable mission-critical data protection capabilities that SoftNAS provides,” said Greg Pellegrino, SoftNAS Senior Director, Product Management.

Other key features of the 3.2 release include:

  • Support for AWS Identity & Access Management, which makes it easier to securely access AWS services from EC2 instances.  AWS keys and master credentials continue to be supported.
  • StorageCenter™, SoftNAS’ intuitive storage management dashboard now supports importing AWS S3 cloud disks and adding EBS (Elastic Block Storage) disks.
  • SoftNAS will be exhibiting SoftNAS Cloud for Docker and version 3.2 at The Venetian in Las Vegas, from Nov. 11-14 at AWS re:Invent, the largest gathering of the global Amazon Web Services community.
