NORC at the University of Chicago Is First to Occupy Latest Addition to Latisys’ Oak Brook, IL Data Center Campus

CHICAGO, IL – Nov 20, 2014 — /BackupReview.info/ — Responding to increasing enterprise demand for mission critical data center capacity in the Chicago suburbs, Latisys, a leading international provider of hybrid cloud hosting and data center solutions, today announced it has completed construction and is preparing to commission an additional 24,400 square feet of new high-density raised floor at its Oak Brook, Illinois data center campus 18 miles west of downtown Chicago. The new build-out creates CHI-06 and features an additional 3.6 megawatts of critical power — adding capacity at Latisys’ Tier 3 high density Chicago datacenter campus which has a total of 148,000 square feet.

Latisys also announced that NORC at the University of Chicago (NORC) has signed an early occupancy agreement, making it the first tenant in CHI-06. NORC is an independent research organization that collaborates with government agencies, foundations, education institutions, nonprofit organizations, and businesses to provide data and analysis that support informed decision making in key areas including health, education, economics, crime, justice, and energy. NORC’s business growth is driving the need both for secure and compliant-grade data center space to accommodate stringent requirements of Federal Agencies and large enterprise customers.

“Confidentiality is central to NORC’s mission,” said Ron Jurek, Chief Information Officer and Executive Vice President of Operations at NORC at the University of Chicago. “We obtain confidential data on a daily basis. This requires a highly flexible IT environment that emphasizes best-in-class security to ensure both the fidelity of the data we collect as well as unparalleled performance for our customers. Latisys’ Chicago data center campus provides us the flexibility and reliability to support our current and expanding business needs.”

In addition to migrating critical services into the new space, such as NORC’s Secure Data Enclave environment — a statistical processing environment that enables customers to run Big Data applications and solutions — NORC is also evaluating Latisys’ Ashburn, Va. data center campus for additional resiliency and redundancy solutions.

The CHI-06 environment is tied directly to existing fiber carriers in the buildings and monitored 24x7x365 by on-site Network Operations Center personnel and systems. Latisys engages external audit firms to perform annual assessments to support customers’ diverse compliance requirements. These accredited examinations span SOC 2, SOC 3, PCI DSS and HIPAA and are supported by a formal Attestation of Compliance — affirming Latisys’ commitment to meet the highest standards for availability and security.

“Chicago’s western suburbs continue to gain in popularity as the primary alternative for Chicago enterprises seeking new capacity, higher power densities and the ability to extend their infrastructure nationally and internationally,” said Pete Stevenson, CEO of Latisys. “Our expanded Chicago data center and hybrid cloud hosting platform is purpose built to deliver secure, scalable — and highly flexible — IT infrastructure solutions for large and mid-sized enterprises that seek both high performance and business value.”

Latisys’ Oak Brook data center campus delivers key features to meet a variety of critical business drivers for the enterprise:

  • Capacity to meet increasing demand for power and space among Chicago-based organizations whose existing capacity has been reached or whose limited power densities make it difficult to grow efficiently.
  • Cloud-Enabled Systems Infrastructure (CESI) delivers a hybrid suite of cloud computing and infrastructure services that includes data center colocation, managed hosting & private cloud, managed storage, server virtualization, backup, replication and security services.
  • Key proximity to downtown Chicago and CME, offering organizations in the Central Business District and surrounding areas latency as low as sub 1ms.
  • Flexible, tailored solutions to meet the dynamic needs of today’s nimble businesses who seek a single partner that can right-size solutions both for today and for tomorrow.

Latisys recently announced a significant enhancement to its suite of Threat and Compliance Management Services, giving customers a suite of leading-edge tools and security expertise to better evaluate risk, detect and address threats and vulnerabilities.
