• Oversubscribed $10 Million Series A round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and industry luminaries behind Symantec, Data Domain, and Veritas
  • Founded by key engineers from Google, Facebook, VMware and Data Domain
  • Rubrik Converged Data Management is industry’s first solution to eliminate backup software

PALO ALTO, CA – March 24, 2015 — /BackupReview.info/ — Rubrik, Inc. today announced that it has received $10 million in Series A funding and launched its Early Access Program for the Rubrik Converged Data Management platform.

Rubrik offers live data access for recovery and application development by fusing enterprise data management with web-scale IT, and eliminating backup software. This marks the end of a decade-long innovation drought in backup and recovery, the backbone of IT. Within minutes, businesses can manage the explosion of data across private and public clouds.

Industry analyst firm IDC estimates that businesses will spend $47 billion in 2015 on infrastructure to protect data, manage disaster recovery, enable DevOps, and archive for compliance and long-term retention. The market is comprised of legacy architectures that fail to deliver applications instantly and manage big data growth.

“For years IT has been forced to stitch together legacy pieces of infrastructure to manage data through the application lifecycle, from recovery to provisioning production replicas for DevOps,” said Bipul Sinha, Rubrik Co-founder and CEO. “Today we are excited to announce the first act in our product journey. We have built a powerful time machine that delivers live data and seamless scale in a hybrid cloud environment. Businesses can now break the shackles of legacy and modernize their data infrastructure, unleashing significant cost savings and management efficiencies.”

Founding Team and Investors
The Rubrik founding team and investor roster has an unrivaled track record of building revolutionary, long-lasting companies and technologies. The founding team includes:

  • Bipul Sinha, Co-founder and CEO – Founding investor and Board Member in Nutanix and PernixData and a Partner at Lightspeed Venture Partners
  • Arvind Jain, Co-founder and Vice President of Engineering – Google Distinguished Engineer and founding engineer of Riverbed Technology
  • Soham Mazumdar, Co-founder and Architect – Co-founder of Tagtile (acquired by Facebook) and architect of Google’s disk-based search index
  • Arvind Nithrakashyap, Co-founder and CTO – Co-founder of Oracle Exadata and Oracle Cluster Principal Engineer

Rubrik’s investors include Lightspeed Venture Partners, as well as industry luminaries John W. Thompson (Microsoft Chairman, Symantec Former CEO), Frank Slootman (ServiceNow CEO, Data Domain Former CEO) and Mark Leslie (Leslie Ventures, Veritas Founding CEO).

“There is a huge opportunity to disrupt the secondary environment, which is the foundation of enterprise IT,” said Ravi Mhatre, Partner at Lightspeed Venture Partners. “We invested in Rubrik because of the exceptional caliber of its leadership team and game-changing technology in a market that has remained stagnant for more than a decade.”

“Rubrik’s product marks a paradigm shift in how companies approach data management by eliminating backup software, minimizing data center footprint, and lowering total cost of ownership,” said John W. Thompson. “No other solution delivers on-demand data access through the application lifecycle, from development and testing to backup and archive.”

Early Access Program
Demonstrating the pent up demand for a new approach to data management, Rubrik is already working with a number of customers and partners. Starting today the Converged Data Management platform is now available through Rubrik’s Early Access Program.

“Rubrik offers us a disruptive solution that simplifies our backup and recovery in the same way that Nutanix has for our primary environment,” says Matthew Day, IT Manager at Langs Building Supplies, a leading provider of timber and hardware products. “With Rubrik, we get converged data management that installs in record time, is easy to manage, and eliminates our need for backup software or globally deduplicated storage.”
