Intronis enables IT service providers and SMBs to fight back with newly updated Gremlins Defense Kit and data security resources

CHELMSFORD, MA – March 26, 2015 — /BackupReview.info/ — Intronis, Inc., a provider of world-class backup and data protection solutions for the IT channel, today unveiled several new components of its “Data Loss Gremlins” Campaign, just in time for World Backup Day on March 31, 2015. Featuring six “gremlins” that personify common causes of data loss, including fire, natural disaster, theft, virus, user error, and equipment failure, Intronis’ nationwide awareness and prevention campaign returns for a second year to help educate small businesses about the importance of data backup and protection.

According to the Identity Theft Resource Center, the number of data breaches in the United States increased 27.5 percent in 2014 alone. The 2013 Verizon Data Breach Investigations Report also revealed that 81 percent of all breaches happen to small businesses. On the heels of escalating cyber security concerns, President Obama called for better cyber security in his State of the Union Address in January, leading to increased educational and prevention efforts.

This year’s “Data Loss Gremlins” campaign offers several new educational resources in the Gremlin Defense Kit, which is intended for IT service providers to use in educating their small business customers. Intronis also offers a suite of rebrandable resources available to its IT channel partners for use in their own marketing efforts, including a complete gremlins email campaign. These resources include email templates, adoption papers, and an infographic detailing what data small businesses should back up.

“Since its inception in 2011, World Backup Day has aimed to inspire the public to make regular backups of their data and critical files, but many SMBs still don’t realize the risks their businesses face,” said Aaron Dun, CMO, Intronis. “For many small business owners, taking the necessary steps to protect their data – and ultimately their businesses – is rarely a formal protocol. Intronis created the Data Loss Gremlins Campaign to bring the severity of data loss to life—while providing actionable tips for business owners to use in the fight to prevent data loss.”

The Gremlin Defense Kit includes a number of tips for SMB and IT service providers, and the featured tech guide highlights the Six Ways to Fight the Data Loss Gremlins:

  1. Encrypt data to keep it safe from prying eyes
  2. Follow best practices for virus and malware prevention
  3. Create BYOD security policies and protect mobile devices
  4. Implement strong user access control
  5. Develop a business continuity and disaster recovery plan
  6. Use off-site cloud backup

Intronis recommends that businesses fight back and protect their data from significant threats with the help of well-prepared and proactive managed IT services providers (MSPs). Some channel partners have already begun using the Intronis “gremlins” to call attention to these threats.

“Intronis’ Data Loss Gremlins are endearing, and we’ve adopted them as part of our marketing efforts to educate our customers and prospects on the threats facing SMBs today,” said Patty Willman, marketing specialist, Nashville Computer, Inc. “Some of the creative ways we’ve put them to work include promoting our Backup and Disaster Relief Seminar, and using them in our newsletters. With storm season approaching, I’m sure we will continue to find more great ways to use the Gremlins.”
