ownCloud to provide Datto users with frictionless file sharing while allowing IT to maintain ownership and control of data

NEW ORLEANS–DATTO PARTNER CONFERENCE – June 16, 2015 — /BackupReview.info/ — ownCloud Inc., the company behind the world’s most popular open source enterprise file sync and share (EFSS) software, today announced the formation of a strategic partnership with Datto that will add ownCloud’s secure file sync and share capabilities to Datto’s SIRIS product line. As a result, Datto end users will be able to collaborate and share files with a fully scalable, EFSS solution with world-class ease of use.

Users of Datto’s Total Data Protection Platform, which protects enterprise data wherever it lives, will now have access to ownCloud’s on-premise enterprise file sync and share platform. This provides the frictionless file sharing and collaboration they need, while allowing IT to integrate the solution into systems and tools they already use, enabling them to maintain corporate governance policies and control over sensitive data.

ownCloud’s unique on-premise EFSS solution will be integrated directly into the Datto SIRIS platform, giving customers complete control to determine where data is secured, governed, audited and managed, ensuring the customer will be compliant with the regulatory and internal policies critical to their success.

“So often, the demands of business users – the ability to quickly and easily collaborate and share files across departments or business units – are at odds with the needs of IT administrators and IT security officers tasked with ensuring the integrity and protection of valuable and sensitive corporate data,” said Terri McClure, senior analyst at ESG. “Partnerships that are able to help both business users and IT administrators meet in the middle, like this one between Datto and ownCloud, will go a long way toward solving that inherent conflict faced my most enterprises.”

“More than 8,000 managed service providers rely on Datto for the best possible business continuity solutions for their clients,” said Rob May, SVP, Business Development at Datto. “The ability to offer customers seamless collaboration without sacrificing the control and security of sensitive corporate data is an enormous value-add for Datto’s MSP partners and their customers.”

ownCloud provides Universal File Access through a common file access layer regardless of where the data lives – in applications, object stores, on-premise storage or in the cloud – all completely managed, secured and controlled by IT. Datto customers will now be able to access company files on any device, any time, from anywhere, while IT can manage, control and audit file sharing activity to ensure security and compliance requirements are met.

“Datto is growing at an incredibly fast pace because they provide reliable, comprehensive, seamless data protection services in an easy-to-use way,” said Holger Dryoff, VP of Strategic Partnerships and Co-Founder of ownCloud. “We’re thrilled to work with such an innovative partner to provide solutions that will help them extend those benefits. Businesses today need to be able to access and share files without worrying that doing so will put their data – and therefore their business – at risk. ownCloud provides IT administrators with access, management and control while giving them the overall visibility they need to effectively and securely deliver the collaboration and file sharing end users demand.”

ownCloud will participate in the Datto Partner Conference, taking place June 15-17 in New Orleans. More than 500 Datto partners will converge at the Datto Partner Conference to share their successful go-to-market strategies, pricing structures, and best practices.
