WEYMOUTH, MA – August 20, 2015 — /BackupReview.info/ — InfoTrends is pleased to announce the completion of its 2015 U.S. Cloud Services End-user Survey. This report details the results of InfoTrends’ survey of U.S. consumers’ awareness and usage of online cloud services for storing, protecting, accessing, and sharing various types of files—with an emphasis on personal photos. It includes a demographic comparison of cloud service users and non-users, as well as insights into motivation for use, types of files stored, devices used for access, and pricing. For the first time, this study also includes a series of questions for users of Apple iCloud.

As consumers generate more digital content—much of it in the form of increasingly large digital photo and video files—they need a place to keep it. Cloud services, originally conceived as a way to provide off-site backup for computer files, are now convenient for mobile content, as well. With support for cloud storage built in to mobile and desktop operating systems, it is now a relatively easy part of everyday workflow.

The survey found that cloud service users generally understand their benefits and believe that the services are providing the features that they consider important. Nevertheless, despite being willing to pay for those benefits, a majority of users continue to pay nothing. A majority of users and non-users were receptive to the idea of ad supported cloud services, which may be an easier way to generate revenue than to rely on converting free users to paid subscribers.

InfoTrends also recommends that cloud service providers consider starting or expanding partnerships with vendors of photo prints and custom photo merchandise. More than half of cloud service users in this survey were interested in allowing vendors access to their photos to produce such products—a significantly higher percentage than in 2013.

InfoTrends’ 2015 U.S. Cloud Services End-user Survey report will be useful to current cloud service providers as well as other vendors that may be considering the development or acquisition of such services, or partnerships with existing providers.
