ClearSky Data, Xtium will share case study focused on vSphere Virtual Volumes, storage-as-a-service and raising the bar on storage performance

BOSTON, MA – August 27, 2015 — /BackupReview.info/ — ClearSky Data, provider of a global storage network that manages the entire enterprise data lifecycle, today announced it will participate, along with its customer Xtium, in a VMware-led session at VMworld 2015 to discuss a new breakthrough in storage. The session will provide an overview and update on vSphere Virtual Volumes, including how to solve challenges in managing virtual machines (VMs) in external storage by providing finer control at the VM level, streamlining storage operations and providing flexibility of choice. As guest speakers, ClearSky Data and Xtium executives will highlight the potential of using vSphere Virtual Volumes as a service to achieve instant data portability and dramatic cost of ownership savings.

The session, “What’s New in Virtual Volumes” (STO5571), will take place on Aug. 31 from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Moscone Center. ClearSky Data chief technology officer and co-founder Laz Vekiarides will join Tim Vogel, chief technology officer of Xtium and a ClearSky Data customer, in a discussion led by Michael Haag, VMware product line marketing manager, and Juan Novella, VMware product marketing manager. As guest speakers, Vekiarides and Vogel will discuss how the ClearSky service and vSphere Virtual Volumes can enable distributed storage with cloud economics and on-demand, pay-as-you-go capabilities.

“Our customers want agile, scalable, budget-conscious storage solutions, and the ClearSky service is a fantastic way to leverage VVOLs to meet that demand,” said Tim Vogel, chief technology officer of Xtium, a managed cloud hosting, online backup and virtual disaster recovery services company. “Through the ClearSky service and vSphere Virtual Volumes, we’re giving our customers the next big thing in enterprise storage at a savings of 60 to 70 percent over traditional physical storage arrays.”

In addition to participating in this VMworld session, ClearSky Data is introducing its global storage network, a breakthrough service that simplifies the entire enterprise data lifecycle as a fully managed service. The ClearSky service liberates overburdened IT teams from managing primary, backup and disaster recovery storage infrastructure by plugging into storage infrastructure as a fully managed service from points of presence (PoPs) in major metro areas. The service-level agreement (SLA)-based service delivers the performance of a local storage array with the comprehensive security, low latency and high availability required for enterprise applications.
