Enhanced Cloud Efficiency and Flexibility with High-Performance, Open-Design Mellanox End-to-End Ethernet Cloud Network Fabric

SUNNYVALE, Calif. & YOKNEAM, Israel – April 24, 2016 — /BackupReview.info/ — Mellanox® Technologies, Ltd. (NASDAQ:MLNX), a leading supplier of end-to-end interconnect solutions for data center servers and storage systems, today announced that Enter, creator of Enter Cloud Suite (ECS), Europe’s first multi-regional OpenStack-based cloud, has selected Mellanox Open Composable Networks (OCN) as the Ethernet network fabric for its Infrastructure-as-a-Service cloud offering. Enter will deploy Mellanox Spectrum SN2700 switches with Cumulus Linux from Cumulus Networks, along with Mellanox ConnectX-4 Lx NICs and LinkX cables on its ECS. Enter has seen substantial performance, efficiency and flexibility gains that stem from Mellanox OCN’s open design, ready integration with OpenStack and Cumulus Linux, and advanced offload and acceleration capabilities such as SR-IOV, RDMA, and VXLAN Offload.

Enter has been a Mellanox customer using end-to-end 10/40Gb/s Ethernet solutions including SwitchX®-2 SX1710 and SX1410 Open Ethernet™ switches, ConnectX®-3 Pro NICs and Mellanox’s LinkX™ cables in production. As they build out their OpenStack cloud, they are increasingly adopting open software and expecting the open design concept will evolve in networking for Enter to enable a truly open platform, unleash innovation in cloud infrastructure, and stay clear of vendor lock-in. The Mellanox Open Composable Networks platform and its partnership with Cumulus Networks have realized Enter’s vision and principles for their open cloud design.

“At Enter, we pride ourselves on building the Enter Cloud Suite for a wide variety of open-source platforms including OpenStack, Ubuntu Linux, and Ceph, to give our customers agile cloud innovation, ultimate transparency and better cost efficiency,” noted Mariano Cunietti, CTO at Enter. “Mellanox Open Composable Networks aligns very well with ECS design principles. These best-of-breed interconnect components, coupled with flexible switch operating system choices such as Cumulus Linux, allow us to use the open software we love on our preferred network devices, with no lock-in from either parties. We look forward to building our grand vision of an open cloud with both Cumulus and Mellanox who are active and core contributors to the Open Compute Project (OCP) community.”

“Our focus in the next 12 months will be developing a Linux-based backbone and a Layer 3 cloud fabric to replace the enormous L2 domain that currently empowers our platform. We strongly believe that deploying configuration templates and subsequent changes on network devices manually in the cloud era is something that you simply can’t accept,” said Giorgio Bonfiglio, Head of Cloud Architecture, Enter. “With Cumulus, we can treat network devices like Linux boxes, and configure and operate our cloud fabric the same, fully automated, way we operate our compute infrastructure, paving the way for operational simplicity and flexibility. Mellanox enables us to maximize the performance of VM-to-VM communication and storage access with minimal CPU overhead. This translates into higher customer satisfaction and higher density to boost our top line.”

“Organizations are moving a diverse range of both conventional and cloud-native workload onto OpenStack clouds. The infrastructure supporting OpenStack cloud needs to be flexibly composed in order to run optimally for these workloads,” said Chloe Jian Ma, Senior Director of Cloud Market Development, Mellanox. “Open Composable Networks is a new way of cloud networking that stems from the hyper-scale cloud and web services giants, but is being made available widely by Mellanox and our cloud ecosystem partners. Our win at Enter proves that OCN is an ideal network solution to power OpenStack clouds.”

“The solution with Mellanox Spectrum that Enter Cloud Suite has chosen is a fantastic example of how the Linux networking model is being embraced by cloud service providers across the globe,” said William Choe, Vice President of Products and Alliances, Cumulus Networks. “The open approach gives customers freedom, transparency and choice when selecting networking solutions. We see tremendous demand for this type of deployment and believe that Mellanox is uniquely positioned to capitalize on a big opportunity as the industry continues to move towards open solutions with no compromise to performance.”
