New partnership with WANdisco reduces cost and complexity, and eliminates downtime during cloud migration

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF. — July 11, 2016 — /BackupReview.info/ — Qubole, the big data-as-a-service company, today announced the launch of its Cloudera Migration Program to assist enterprises in expanding their use of big data by leveraging the advantages of the cloud. As part of the program, Qubole has partnered with WANdisco (LSE:WAND), the market leader in active transactional data replication, to create a seamless process for customers migrating data and analytics to the cloud with no downtime or business disruption.

“The big data industry is shifting from on-premise to cloud as the preferred deployment model, but many early Cloudera customers are stuck with a system that wasn’t designed for the cloud.” said Ashish Thusoo, co-founder and CEO of Qubole “Together with WANdisco, Qubole now offers the first fully packaged migration service which enables companies to experience the full benefits of big data analytics in the cloud.”

As enterprises struggle with the expense and operational complexity of expanding on-premise systems, the adaptability, agility and cost advantages of cloud are compelling.  Qubole customers have seen savings up to 80% for workloads using spot instances and have admins supporting hundreds of users. The Cloudera Migration Program is designed for companies that deployed Cloudera Express, Cloudera Enterprise or CDH on-premise and now want a quick and easy way to leverage the massive economies of scale offered by cloud.

“The biggest challenges to cloud migration have been the downtime, potential data loss and resulting business disruption that often comes with it,” said James Campigli, co-founder and COO at WANdisco. “WANdisco’s patented active transactional data replication technology offers the only solution to overcome these challenges. By partnering with Qubole, we’ve created a unique new offering that allows customers to seamlessly move production data at petabyte scale from on-premise big data deployments to Amazon S3, so they can realize the full benefits of cloud without the pitfalls normally involved in getting there.”

The Cloudera Migration Program enables:
• Qubole Data Platform on AWS to run data processing workloads on Hadoop, Spark, Presto or HBase;
• WANdisco Fusion to enable active data replication from on-premise to AWS S3.  This can done one-time or continuously for a hybrid deployment model;
• Professional services for scoping, planning, design and migration of on-premise Cloudera deployments;
• The seamless movement of data at scale that doesn’t disrupt on-premise user access, or require cloud vendor storage appliances to be sent back and forth from customer data centers;
• Post-migration, the solution supports active transactional data movement between on-premise and cloud environments for hybrid burst-to-cloud use cases.
