–First state in the nation to adopt online document filings for all case types statewide improves ability to potentially accept electronic submission of evidence and other case material in the future–

Tinton Falls, N.J. and Des Moines, Iowa — Nov. 1, 2017 — /BackupReview.info/ — Commvault (NASDAQ: CVLT), a global leader in enterprise backup, recovery, archive and the cloud, today announced that the Iowa Judicial Branch has deployed the Commvault Data Platform to drive widespread adoption of data-driven electronic filings of court, case and evidentiary materials. With Commvault, Iowa is advancing its leadership in using paperless electronic filing while boosting efficiencies and reducing cost and risk.

In 2015 Iowa became the first state in the nation to use an Electronic Data Management System for all case types statewide. Today, Iowa continues to set the standard for online file submissions to better serve court system users, including citizens, law enforcement, the Department of Human Services and hospitals. Iowans across the state’s 99 counties can now file and view case and court proceedings via browser-based applications. Judicial Branch IT is also preparing for possibly accepting the online submission of evidence, including audio and video data, and other case material in the future.

After experiencing persistent backup and recovery problems with its Veritas NetBackup data protection platform, Iowa Judicial Branch replaced its legacy platform with Commvault and achieved immediate gains. With Commvault, the judicial branch now backs-up mission-critical data in less than 16 hours, whereas previously it could take up to a month to back up 50-percent less data. Previously problematic data restores now are handled effortlessly, alleviating concerns about file recoveries. In addition, Commvault provides Judicial Branch IT with capabilities that would help it if it moves forward in accepting the submission of online evidence and other case material in the future.

The Iowa Judicial Branch is also examining how it can use Commvault archiving and analytics to improve management of and secure insights on online file submissions, emails and other data.

“We see far-reaching benefits in archiving for data stewardship, governance and compliance,” said John Hoover, IT Manager of the Database and Infrastructure team at the Iowa Judicial Branch. “We won’t have to invest time, money or people resources dealing with data that hasn’t been touched for a long time. And, with Commvault’s analytics, we can forecast how data growth will impact our budget for a much more predictable spend and efficient use of resources going forward.”

The organization anticipates that Commvault’s real-time analytics will provide actionable insights into rising data volumes for improved budget forecasting and risk mitigation. To that end, the organization is exploring Commvault’s Data Cube, which finds rogue data throughout an organization and collects it in a single interface to search, edit, combine, share and transform it into business intelligence. The ability to identify and delete extra copies of files, databases and outdated emails will liberate crucial storage resources while further reducing compliance risk.

“As the first state in the nation to adopt online document filings for all case types statewide, the State of Iowa’s Judicial Branch continued its long tradition in being progressive in advancing justice through leading edge technologies that best serve the interests of its vast court system users,” said Al Bunte, Chief Operating Officer, Commvault. “Commvault’s Software and its data driven approach was a perfect fit for its digital transformation strategy as the integrated backup and recovery solution of choice. As a result, Iowa’s Judicial Branch is thriving today with a modernized data infrastructure that allows [them] to take full advantage of automation, data portability and cloud functionality to improve data management and archiving for structured and unstructured data and evidence filings.”

Thanks to Commvault, the Iowa Judicial Branch can continue to set the standard for turning all types of data into assets that advance the judicial system for everyone. Additionally, Commvault’s automation, data portability and transparent cloud management will address growing interest in cloud-based disaster recovery while facilitating fast, seamless protection of all judicial and workgroup platforms running on Microsoft SQL Server and SharePoint, Lotus Notes and Oracle.
