COLUMBUS, OH — March 05, 2018  — /BackupReview.info/ — Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML) is among the first large public libraries to successfully migrate its digital infrastructure from a physical data center to the cloud. The move will save Franklin County taxpayers an estimated $544,000 over the next five years.

The cloud is a term that refers to Internet-based data storage. Now, all of CML’s digital infrastructure, including its website, columbuslibrary.org, has been outsourced to a cloud storage provider, Expedient.

Not only is this move cost-effective, as it eliminates the need for CML to reinvest in and maintain a physical data center, but it is also more secure and provides the library with an improved business continuity plan in the event of a disaster. Prior to this change, all CML data flowed through its Operations Center in Gahanna.

The New York Public Library is among those library systems that have also moved their digital infrastructure to the cloud within the last several years.
