Rural Georgia Telco Adds Managed IT Services to Product Stack in Light of Government Funding Challenges

OVERLAND PARK, KAN. – October 05, 2018 — /BackupReview.info/ — Codero Holdings, Inc. (Codero), a leader in managed hosting services and technology enablement, today released a case study demonstrating how Pineland Telephone Cooperative, based in Metter, Georgia, is leveraging Codero managed IT services to build new revenue streams. Like many rural local exchange carriers (RLECs), Pineland is taking a pro-active approach to recouping the costs of installing high-speed fiber as smaller providers await the next round of federal and state government funding.

The case study details how, by partnering with Codero, Pineland has been able to quickly and affordably launch new managed product and service lines for its business and residential customers, including disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS), cloud backup and Microsoft products including Office 365, the Azure stack and Exchange.

“It takes a lot of money to deploy the networks that we deploy without a lot of revenue opportunities to make that return back,” said Dustin Durden, General Manager of Pineland. “Having a suite of services that we can offer customers to build additional revenue streams really helps us to make a living.”

The FCC announced in February that it would launch its $2 billion Connect America Fund Phase II for the continued creation of rural broadband. RLECs were required to submit applications for funding at the end of March. However, with a vast number of areas around the country still underserved by broadband, many providers are not optimistic that the funding they’ll receive will adequately offset their costs.

Pineland has long been a thought leader in the RLEC community, implementing its initial fiber investments more than 12 years ago and becoming an early investor in Codero, as well as a partner.

“As a company that’s owned by and serves a number of RLECs, it’s important to us to help them address these funding challenges and build new revenue without them having to outlay a great deal of additional capital building their own IT services from the ground up,” said Ric Riddle, Codero Chief Revenue Officer. “In the end, this also helps our RLEC Partners better serve their rural customers who have the same need for high-speed, modern IT products and services as people in more populated areas.”
