Ransomware Attack Led Customer to Leverage Data Recovery as a Service to Minimize Downtime and Protect Company Data

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – March 27, 2019 — /BackupReview.info/ — Online Tech, a leader in secure, compliant hybrid cloud services, has announced that it is providing more comprehensive Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) for a national equipment distributor to help the company protect its data and keep its systems running without disruption in the wake of a recent ransomware attack. Online Tech’s DRaaS, like all solutions across its cloud solutions portfolio, is delivered from a foundation of security and compliance that encompasses all products, processes and business operations

In 2018, the national distributor secured Online Tech’s DRaaS to provide failover capabilities for approximately one quarter of its critical servers. Later, the company experienced a ransomware attack. Online Tech DRaaS quickly recovered the systems it covered and had the servers up and running for production within approximately fifteen minutes. Following the attack, the distributor moved all remaining systems to Online Tech’s DRaaS, since those previously unsecured portions required days of manual work to restore from backup and get the full environment running again.

The distributor’s complete environment is now fully protected by Online Tech’s DRaaS in a redundant off-site location, safeguarding all of the company’s valuable data. In the event of another ransomware attack, the company is completely protected and can have all systems restored within a matter of hours thanks to the short recovery time and recovery point objectives. Online Tech’s staff also acts immediately to support clients with additional security solutions to ensure that no re-infection occurs.

“We were glad that we were able to help our customer through this unfortunate incident. No one is immune to today’s cyber attacks, and the results of ransomware can be devastating for businesses,” said Jason Yaeger, Vice President of Business Development and Security Officer of Online Tech. “Fortunately we have a strong relationship with our customer, who had already begun to protect a portion of its environment with our data recovery services. This enabled us to work quickly to help them resolve their larger issue and move to inclusively secure the rest of their systems. The incident showed just how valuable DRaaS is and highlighted the urgency for security best practices.”

Part of Online Tech’s extensive suite of data protection services, DRaaS eliminates the complexity of constructing, operating, testing and maintaining a disaster recovery infrastructure. Backed by enterprise-grade services and white glove support, Online Tech’s DRaaS allows customers to recover in minutes instead of hours. Data is always encrypted, and live failovers can be performed in just a few clicks. Visit Online Tech for more information on its DRaaS.
