New Added-Value Service Lets Resellers Provide Data Protection to Customers With No Hassle

TORONTO–(Marketwire - May 15, 2008) - Online backup and storage provider Data Deposit Box (www.datadepositbox.com) has launched a managed service for its Reseller Program. This managed service is the first of its kind in the online storage industry and will allow resellers, who comprise the fastest growing segment of new Data Deposit Box customers, to more efficiently manage billing, reporting and administration for their customer accounts.

The new service allows resellers to offer a Data Deposit Box managed online backup service as an added-value to their own customers with the same guaranteed level of security and privacy. Resellers manage the accounts, handling administrative background work and paying directly for the service. The managed service will also offer robust reporting, and resellers will now be able to easily access the storage statistics of each customer, allowing them to enhance their services based on individual customer needs.

“We’re excited to offer this managed service to our reseller partners, who have been clamoring for a service like this for some time because it’s an easy way to add value for their customers,” said Data Deposit Box CEO Jamie Brenzel. “It’s also a great way to introduce new customers to Data Deposit Box. It comes with all the benefits of data protection, without the worry of managing multiple accounts. The Data Deposit Box reseller program has been so successful because resellers trust the quality of service we provide, and we allow them the autonomy to control and strengthen their own customer relationships.”

Data Deposit Box’s Reseller Program allows resellers to create and manage customer accounts directly using its administrative portal. Customers may also register online using an encoded link from the reseller’s site. Referred links from the reseller’s site earn the same commissions. The Reseller Program is part of Data Deposit Box’s Partner Program which offers services that cater to value-added resellers, systems integrators and PC consultants. Data Deposit Box’s more than 300 resellers currently contribute to approximately 20 percent of the company’s monthly revenue.

Data Deposit Box is a secure and comprehensive online data storage and backup service that enables users to affordably and simply backup, restore, and share information online for $2 per GB per month. Once the software is installed, it can be customized to backup as many or as few files as desired. Data Deposit Box runs invisibly in the background and engages when the computer is connected to the Internet, continuously monitoring selected folders. Data Deposit Box is automatic — when a change is detected, it is immediately extracted, compressed, encrypted and then securely transferred to a remote server. After creating a backup with Data Deposit Box, customers investing in this service can securely access files remotely from any web browser.

Data Deposit Box currently serves more than 30,000 customers, and the number continues to grow by five percent per month. Approximately half of Data Deposit Box customers are small business owners.

In my experience, the feature works well. The free Google Docs software-as-a-service has a lot to offer mobile professionals, including free online backup and the ability to easily view documents from any device with a Web browser.

Before joining Spare Backup, Weber served as the General Manager of the Personal Storage Business in Hewlett Packard’s Personal Systems Group. While at HP, Weber managed a profitable personal storage accessories and media business and was responsible for positioning HP in leading edge storage technologies such as DVD+RW and Blu-ray Disc. Weber was also responsible for creating strategic alliances for HP with major companies in the consumer electronics, consumer software and entertainment industries. During her tenure at HP, she served two years as the Chair of the Blu-ray Disc Association’s Global Promotions Committee.

“Maureen’s experience in personal storage, not to mention her understanding of the industry and the trends that are driving it, make her a tremendous asset to Spare Backup,” said Spare Backup CEO, Cery Perle. “Additionally, her track record as a manager of successful and profitable business groups in a very competitive environment enables her to take front line responsibility in a number of areas, freeing me up to focus on the overall growth and positioning of the company.”

Weber, who will split time between the company’s Palm Desert headquarters and Ft. Collins, Colorado, will manage Spare Backup’s SAN development program, assist in the development of new product and business lines, manage and develop strategic alliances and oversee Project Hawk, a new initiative aimed at extending Spare Backup’s popular and easy to use features to enterprise architectures.

“Whether by design or simply as a matter of circumstance, individuals and small businesses increasingly rely on electronic rather than paper files, and it’s no secret that photo, music and video libraries have been growing exponentially, making storage and backup a growth industry for the foreseeable future,” said Weber. “Spare Backup has set the bar in terms of ease of use and convenience and it’s exciting to be on the front edge of an industry that will become increasingly critical as the sheer volume of personal and commercial digital data continues to grow.”

Surrey, United Kingdom – 14 May 2008 – UK start-up, SquirrelSave has today slashed their 20GB monthly capacity allowance to provide consumers and small businesses with unlimited online backup for a PC or laptop for £4.95 per month.

In a move that sees SquirrelSave take on its larger US competitors, such as Mozy and Carbonite, the company hopes to pick up a significant amount of new business as consumers look to a local provider with UK data centres to store their data.

Recently winning a Best Buy Award from Computer Buyer magazine for its ease of use and good value for money, SquirrelSave is the ultimate answer for staying backed up.

Where Mozy only allows users to go back 30 days to restore a version of a file, and Carbonite 90 days, SquirrelSave provides customers with free access to historical back-ups forever, so a file can be restored as it existed weeks, or even years ago.

As well as offering the unlimited monthly storage and free historical backups, SquirrelSave works constantly in the background, automatically sending files to the server whenever you save them. Data is transferred using 128-bit encryption and the files remain encrypted on the server to ensure that content is safe and secure at all times.

A clear visual interface also allows users to see which files are backed-up. Unprotected files are signified with an orange cross, whilst those backed up have a green-tick. Right-clicking any file gives you the choice of adding or excluding it from the backup, as well as backing it up immediately if it’s an important file.

If a file is modified locally then it is immediately updated on the backup server, or as soon as a network connection becomes available, therefore users don’t need to wait until they get back to the office to back up their data.

“Our aim when we launched SquirrelSave was to make backing up as simple as possible for users. Now with unlimited capacity for £4.95 per month, users will never outgrow their SquirrelSave subscription no matter how much data they have,” said Kate Craig-Wood, founder and MD of SquirrelSave.

Between Sangria and Local & Off-Site Data Backup

(live-PR.com) - Rotkreuz / Switzerland, Hamburg / Germany, Simi Valley / USA, 13 May 2008 - In the relaxed atmosphere of the Balearic Islands, NovaStor, a leading provider of software solutions for data availability and protection, hosted its second European Partner Conference on April 17th and 18th. Over two days, NovaStor management and partners dedicated themselves to presentations, discussions, work groups and leisure activities focused around the benefits of utilizing best practices on the delivery of solutions for local and offsite data protection.

Small businesses especially are seeing an increase in volumes of data, and this is driving the growing demand for protection against data loss. One solution that is emerging as a medium for storage is the Internet. Online storage can be utilized to secure and protect data against local or onsite threats such as a system crash, burglary or even a natural disaster. Because the Internet is globally available, it provides the perfect complement to local storage.

The conference was well attended by European representatives from distributors, systems integrators and other IT professionals. These attendees identified NovaBACKUP 10 with disk imaging disaster recovery and online capabilities to be a Best Practice in terms of data protection and availability.

NovaBACKUP empowers users to protect critical data both locally and off-site, version 10 is the latest offering of NovaStor’s flagship product. Features new to this version are disk imaging disaster recovery, off-site storage capabilities via FTP server or online storage account, and automatic software updates.

NovaBACKUP 10 is scheduled to be released later this month.

Swizznet’s Online Accounting Platform gives accountants the ability to offer secure online accounting services to their clients who need online, real-time access to their accounting application and business financial information anywhere, anytime.

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) May 13, 2008 — Swizznet, the leading provider in accounting technology services, announced the release of its new integrated Online Accounting Platform today. The new platform gives accountants the ability to offer secure online accounting services to their clients, the small-to-medium size business (SMB) market. The platforms enables small businesses to access their accounting application and business financial information online anytime, anywhere, and in real-time.

“Swizznet’s Online Accounting Platform is specifically designed for accountants so that they can offer tailored online accounting services to their new and existing SMB clients,” said Digby Williams, Swizznet Co-Founder. “Small businesses using QuickBooks or other accounting applications need real-time, on-demand, access to their financial information whether they’re at their office or on the road. In addition, our platform provides secure data storage and document management solutions.”

The Swizznet Online Accounting Platform offerings include integrated accounting application hosting (QuickBooks, etc.), document management, and secure data storage. This platform offers accountants a way to grow their revenue and remotely service their clients more effectively.

This is the first offering of its kind to hit the marketplace and the Online Accounting Platform utilizes the latest available technology. While there are other Application Service Providers (ASPs) in the marketplace that host accounting applications, features that set this platform apart from other ASPs include: application integration into the users desktop; dual monitor support; document management with direct scanning to the platform; drag and drop capability for file transfers; superior backup and security; and unique user interaction via remote user shadowing.

“We tried other online accounting services in the market, but they came up short and could not deliver the level of service we needed for our clients,” explained Williams. “We teamed up with the best technology providers to create a comprehensive solution for our clients and for other accountants faced with the same problems. Our simple pricing structure makes it possible for accountants to easily integrate it into their service offerings and increase their revenue streams.”

Swizznet’s Online Accounting Platform is an easy-to-use, yet comprehensive solution that can help accountants be more efficient, manage their customer base, and grow their business.

About Swizznet:

As our world becomes more digitized, the files we store on our computers are becoming increasingly more important. Instead of keeping handwritten letters in a shoebox, we correspond with family members using e-mail. If we use digital cameras, we often keep our photo albums on our computers.

Unfortunately, computers (and particularly the hard disk drives that hold your files) can fail. Your computer might run for a decade with no problems, or it could fail tomorrow—there’s no way to tell. To make sure you don’t lose important files if your computer stops working, you should back up your computer on a regular basis. The backup process copies your files to a safe place so that even if your computer fails, you won’t lose them.

Choose backup storage

It doesn’t make sense to back up your files to the hard disk drive inside your computer, because if your computer were to fail, you would also lose your backup. Instead, you should back up your files to an external hard disk drive or removable disk drive, such as a CD. If your computer does fail, you can then connect the external hard disk drive or use the CDs to restore your files to your new or repaired computer. (This article describes how to back up your files to an external hard disk drive, which is the easiest way to do a full backup of all your files. If you decide to use CDs, you’ll need to choose which files to back up and then manually insert and remove CDs as they are filled.)

If you decide to get an external hard disk drive, choose one that is at least as large as the hard disk drive inside your computer. For example, if your computer has a 100-gigabyte (GB) hard disk drive, choose a 100-GB or larger external hard disk drive. Then connect the external hard disk drive to your computer. Make a note of the drive letter (such as E:, F:, or G:) assigned to your new hard disk drive.

With an external hard disk drive, you can manually back up your files, or you can schedule automatic weekly backups.

Access to the data would not be easy and would require special software, Chrysler said, but the company advised customers to watch out for improper use of the information.
