Education provider chooses Arcserve Unified Data Protection (UDP) to protect its virtual and physical servers

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – May 17, 2016 — /BackupReview.info/ — Arcserve, LLC, the market’s first provider of simple, unified data protection for cloud, virtual and physical environments, today announced that its Arcserve® Unified Data Protection (UDP) software has helped education provider Outwood Grange Academies Trust (OGAT) cut its backup window from 48 hours to just one hour (a 98 percent time savings), has lowered the amount of required secondary storage from three terabytes to 900 gigabytes each month, and reduced a total of 80 terabytes of raw data by 65 percent, to just 28 terabytes before backup. Further, OGAT has achieved 70 percent in cost savings, compared to competing backup and recovery tools, by leveraging Arcserve UDP’s flexible licensing model.

Outwood Grange Academies Trust has 10,000 students and 2,500 staff members. It began as one academy, and over the past ten years, has brought 19 additional schools under its umbrella; each with its own IT system, backup tools, disparate data retention policies, mixed storage media and different approaches to disaster recovery. With its complex hybrid infrastructure, it was virtually impossible to confirm that backups were successfully completed and data retention times were correct.

Arcserve UDP was deployed in all 19 of OGAT’s secondary academies where it backs up 234 servers – 52 physical and 182 virtual – and 80 terabytes of data. Its enhanced data protection strategy means that OGAT has capacity to keep data for longer, and its IT team can guarantee that backups have successfully taken place across its expansive hybrid infrastructure. Moreover, the flexible licensing offered by Arcserve gives OGAT the scalability it requires as more academies are added to its family of schools, with plans already in place to extend the solution to its remaining five institutions.

“We tested four solutions before choosing Arcserve UDP,” said Stuart Jones, IT Director at Outwood Grange Academies Trust. “It proved the strongest because of its data deduplication technologies and was easy-to-use. Arcserve UDP is what we’d term ‘set it and forget it’ – you install the software and that’s it.”

Giovanni Goduti, Northern Europe Sales Director at Arcserve, said, “When you’re handling IT systems for 19 different academies, you really don’t want to worry that backups haven’t worked, and you don’t want to spend days or weeks restoring a server. By compressing and deduplicating OGAT’s data, and by rationalizing its reporting system, we’ve been able to speed up its backups, make them more reliable and give the IT team the opportunity to keep data for longer – taking away the worry and freeing up their time to work on other parts of the IT infrastructure.”
