Avid recommends Spectra Logic for compatibility with Interplay | Archive and LTFS Format

BOULDER, Colo. – March 14, 2017 – Spectra Logic today announced that twofour54, Abu Dhabi’s media and entertainment hub, has deployed a Spectra® BlackPearl® Converged Storage System and Spectra® T120 Tape Library, coupled with Avid Interplay | Archive Software, to meet the company’s digital archiving needs. Spectra Logic’s T120 with LTO-6 media affords twofour54 the Linear Tape File System (LTFS) support required within their unique production environment, while BlackPearl’s seamless integration with Avid Interplay | Archive allows them to easily and efficiently manage large volumes of content.

One of the largest media and entertainment service companies in the United Arab Emirates, twofour54 generates massive amounts of data on a daily basis. The company not only creates and archives assets for its internal projects, but also provides similar services to its clients, offering them the option of storing their assets on diverse storage mediums. twofour54 searched for an LTFS-based solution compatible with its existing Avid environment, to replace its Sony PetaSite, with LTO-4 drives and Front Porch DIVA. The solution needed to have increased capacity to accommodate the company’s growing amounts of data, and improved speed for faster and easier access to user data.

Spectra Logic and Avid’s joint solution allows twofour54 to send archive jobs to Spectra BlackPearl, which then writes two copies of files in LTFS to a Spectra T120 tape library. Source material and non-Avid assets are archived via BlackPearl through the BlackPearl® Eon Browser and Cyberduck BlackPearl-certified client. The solution has met all of twoFour54’s requirements for archive and finished asset delivery, providing a simple, integrated workflow that is both scalable and high performance.

“twofour54 had to meet specific criteria in its storage envrionment to satisfy the needs of its clients,” said Brian Grainger, CSO, Spectra Logic. “After reviewing these requirements, twofour54’s software provider Avid recommended a joint solution with Spectra Logic to address the company’s digital archive challenges. Together, Spectra and Avid provide twofour54 with a fully integrated, end-to-end workflow, ideally suited for quick and easy asset management, as well as for the substantial growth anticipated by twofour54.”

“Spectra Logic and Avid have provided us with the tools we need to effortlessly manage both our client projects and our own internal projects,” said Yusuf Buti, Head of Technology and Engineering at twofour54. “Spectra Logic allows us to archive Avid assets through the Interplay PAM client, and non-Avid assets through the Eon Browser and Cyberduck integrations. The solution allows us to efficiently manage and archive media content, while meeting our requirement for LTFS support.”
