Aaron Wright, Notre Dame Systems Engineer, presented in a Webinar Co-Sponsored with Amazon Web Services on June 13, Detailing How the University Maintains AWS Uptime

WEST PALM BEACH, FL – June 15, 2018 — / — N2W Software (N2WS), a leading provider of backup and recovery solutions for Amazon Web Services (AWS) and a Veeam company, today announced that The University of Notre Dame is protecting critical data and workloads on AWS with Cloud Protection Manager (CPM) from N2WS.

Aaron Wright, Notre Dame Systems Engineer, presented in a webinar co-sponsored with AWS on June 13, 2018 detailing how the university maintains continuity with its cloud workloads and data when unforeseen circumstances arise.

Notre Dame is a national Catholic university with more than 8,500 undergraduates and more than 3,800 graduate and professional students. For many years, Notre Dame has operated under a cloud-first initiative, and its goal is to have 80 percent of all academic and administrative workloads on the cloud within three years. To date, most of their line of business applications are already on the cloud, such as authentication, which helps students and faculty as they travel; and the university website is now able to deal with extreme traffic spikes easily.

With many mission-critical applications and data on AWS and much more to come, Notre Dame has adopted a forward-thinking backup strategy on AWS. The university turned to Cloud Protection Manager (CPM) from N2WS, to protect numerous accounts and regions with regularly-scheduled, incremental, snapshot-based backups.

As a cloud-native backup tool built specifically for AWS, Cloud Protection Manager gives organizations the ability to back up data as often as needed and recover it far more quickly than with traditional on-premises backup solutions, simplifying workloads and saving teams’ time and resources.

Notre Dame’s forward-thinking approach to cloud data protection has already paid off. For example, recently the applications team rolled out a patch on a production server and unwittingly introduced a vulnerability. The university was able to successfully leverage CPM to roll the patch back, retaining critical data and supporting business continuity.

“At Notre Dame, our IT infrastructure relies heavily on Amazon Web Services, so our data and applications must be protected and available,” said Aaron Wright, Notre Dame Systems Engineer. “With CPM from N2WS, I know that if data is corrupted or accidentally deleted, we will be able to restore it almost instantaneously. N2WS is a critical piece of our cloud strategy.”

WEBINAR: How Notre Dame Maintains Uptime on AWS: A Master Class
WHO: Aaron Wright, Notre Dame Systems Engineer
WHAT: Understand how The University of Notre Dame ensures continuity for its AWS data and applications.
WHY: Learn how to:

  • Protect AWS workloads with snapshot-based backups.
  • Save up to 20% of technicians’ time using CPM’s software automation.
  • Recover a single file or a full environment in less than 60 seconds.
  • Protect against malicious or accidental data loss using cross-account and cross-region disaster recovery.

“Notre Dame is a leader in using AWS to its fullest potential to achieve a nimble, flexible and efficient IT infrastructure,” said Andy Langsam, COO at N2WS. “And with N2WS ensuring continuity, Notre Dame can continue to rely on AWS and expand the university’s presence there, knowing that all data and applications can be restored in less than a minute.”

Market Favors Single, Integrated and Intelligent Solution for Data Management and Protection

DRAPER, Utah – June 15, 2018 — / — StorageCraft®, whose mission is to protect all data and ensure its constant availability, today announced strong momentum as channel partners and customers alike embrace the company’s approach to seamless and integrated data management, protection, and recovery.

“For too long, legacy big-iron vendors have encouraged IT buyers to think about their data and storage infrastructure in silos. This has created multi-billion dollar protected markets that don’t put the customer first and do very little to help as they become overwhelmed by data growth and the need to ensure its constant availability,” said Douglas Brockett, president of StorageCraft. “Those days are numbered. The market is now turning to vendors that are innovating by collapsing and unifying the entire storage management and protection stack into a single, integrated, self-protecting data infrastructure. This approach breaks down the barriers between primary, secondary and cloud storage and paves the way for a solution that is efficient, cost-effective and an order of magnitude easier to use. Our business momentum bears out this shift in market sentiment.”

StorageCraft experienced growth across all aspects of its business:

The number of servers protected by StorageCraft Cloud Services increased more than 100% YoY. Companies purchase StorageCraft solutions to ensure uninterrupted access to business-critical data. They achieve this by deploying StorageCraft ShadowProtect®, the company’s backup solution, which provides instant and flexible recovery capabilities. StorageCraft Cloud Services then provide an additional level of protection by enabling customers to replicate their data to the cloud. In case of a disaster, customers avoid disruption and downtime because they can recover any number and type of machines instantly in the cloud and keep them running while they bring their on-premises data back online.

Repeat purchases from existing customers contributed significantly to the company’s success, with more than 45% of StorageCraft OneBlox customers expanding their deployments to seamlessly scale-out their storage infrastructure from Terabytes (TBs) to Petabytes (PBs) without disrupting their business. OneBlox solves mission-critical storage challenges for VMware environments and the challenges of managing unstructured data for mid-size organizations and enterprises alike.

StorageCraft’s OneBlox has seen a 400% increase in distribution sales YoY. Much of this growth can be attributed to the company leveraging its expansive sales team and channel partners, which are able to satisfy pent-up demand for scale-out storage that unifies primary and secondary storage.

Said Shridar Subramanian, VP of product management and marketing at StorageCraft: “We expect to accelerate these growth indicators over the coming quarters. At VMworld 2018, we will be showcasing modern and ground-breaking solutions based on our vision of deeply integrated data protection, scale-out storage, and cloud-based recovery.”

First global user conference brings market cap of companies in attendance to over $2.25T

MIAMI, FL – June 14, 2018 — – Actifio, the Data-as-a-Service company, hosted hundreds of business and technology innovators last week at Data Driven 2018, Actifio’s first global user conference. The discussions and education centered around one common denominator: Data. More specifically, the conference focused on the innovator’s role in turning the unprecedented flow of data coursing through their organizations and across the internet into greater efficiency, faster operations and ultimate competitive advantage.

Data Driven 2018 drew nearly 500 participants from companies with a combined market capitalization over $2 trillion. The 14 sponsors included Official Cloud Sponsor Google Cloud and Media Sponsor Tech Target, along with a number of global technology titans. Customers, partners, prospects and analysts from across the U.S., Europe and Asia descended upon the Fontainebleau on Miami Beach for two days of insightful keynotes, technology breakouts, panel discussions and more. The speakers represented a wide swath of industries including healthcare, industrial, financial services, professional sports, education, cloud, and security.

Some of the most popular technical topics were:

  • Enabling IT automation including DevOps using Actifio APIs
  • Delivering cost-effective long-term retention using cloud object storage
  • Accelerating cloud adoption using Actifio
  • Delivering instant backup and recovery for mission-critical enterprise databases

Ernesto Nigro, Manager of System Operations at Apotex, said, “Actifio’s Data Driven 2018 was a highlight reel of data-relevant discussion. Engaging sessions, networking and extremely well organized. It was refreshing and unlike most conferences, which are just glorified marketing exercises.”

Jim Donovan, VP of Product at Wasabi, said, “Actifio’s Data Driven 2018 conference was a great opportunity to learn more about how to leverage Actifio to better control and exploit your data to achieve competitive business advantages. Having the chance to discuss Wasabi hot cloud storage with hundreds of enterprise IT professionals and industry cloud experts at the event has my team already looking forward to participating in Data Driven 2019.”

Phil Goodwin, Research Director at IDC, said, “Managing copy data is one thing, but the Actifio model’s goal is to solve specific problems, like capacity management. IDC research indicates that about 60% of the storage on a data center floor is dedicated to housing copy data. We forecast that, by 2021, more than $55 billion will be spent by IT organizations to house all those extra copies of data. Obviously when you can reduce that number and put dollar savings in your pocket, you will use them more productively.”

Ash Ashutosh, co-founder and CEO of Actifio, said, “The term that I think hit home with everyone is that data is a weapon of mass disruption. It is imperative that innovators and practitioners understand how to harness its power and use it to drive their respective businesses forward. It was Actifio’s honor to witness so many like-minded companies and individuals come together to share their best practices in data management and explain how they are leveraging data as a competitive advantage. Actifio is proud to be the platform that helps to facilitate this new, emerging data-driven economy, and we are looking forward to making even greater strides between now and next year’s Data Driven.”

Bellevue, Wash. – June 13, 2018 — / — Synology today released two major backup applications in Active Backup suite of packages, the official version of Active Backup for Office 365 that supports SaaS cloud backup, and the beta version of Active Backup for Business that provides data availability for workloads in physical and virtual environments.

“More and more companies and organizations are operating across physical, virtual, and cloud platforms. This phenomenon presents a tremendous challenge to IT departments for ensuring the safety of the growing data in this cross-platform environment.” said Jia-Yu Liu, Director of Application Group at Synology Inc. “To tackle this problem, Synology provides a new, all-in-one solution that closely integrates software and hardware for businesses of varying scale.”

Active Backup for Office 365 employs single instancing technology to not only help businesses with the management and availability of Office 365 data, but also significantly lower the space occupied by backups. The content search function is particularly geared toward combing through content in mail and attachments, enabling users to find the mail in need of recovery in the shortest time.

Key features of Active Backup for Office 365 include:

  • Support multiple Office 365 endpoints: Office 365, Office 365 Germany, Office 365 operated by 21Vianet.
  • Centralized and comprehensive protection: Back up OneDrive for Business, mail, contacts, and calendar data to a Synology NAS and manage the copies efficiently from a single interface.
  • Granular restoration, search, and export from the self-service recovery portal:
  • Efficiently filter by keyword with the new content search feature. From there, users can find the right email and restore or download a single file, mail, mail attachment, contact, or calendar event from the self-service recovery portal.
  • Backup and storage efficiency: Single instancing ensures efficiency by transferring and storing files with unique content only. Block-level deduplication helps businesses keep the most data using the least storage space by only saving a file’s blocks that are changed compared to its previous version.

In contrast, Active Backup for Business integrates multiple technologies adopted by DiskStation Manager (DSM). For Btrf file system, Synology has developed the Global Deduplication function to greatly reduce the required storage for backup. The integration with Virtual Machine Manager allows NAS backups of physical servers or virtual machines to directly run on DSM, maximizing the availability of data and applications.

Key features of Active Backup for Business include:

  • PC and server protection: With the Active Backup agent utility, users can perform image-based backups to protect their Windows PC or Windows server workloads. Depends on the scenario, users could choose to restore a single file from the recovery portal, bare-metal restore the whole system, or directly run a backup image on Virtual Machine Manager to retrieve the application data and provide application availability.
  • Virtual machine protection: Users can protect their virtual machine workloads without an agent just with VMware vSphere info. It supports multiple restoration methods, ranging from individual file restore, instant VM restore to NFS, full VM restore and running on Synology VMM.
  • Faster Backup: Changed Block Tracking (CBT) technology performs incremental backups instead of a full backup every time.
  • Storage efficiency: Built-in global deduplication greatly reduces storage consumption
  • Better restore reliability: Verify backups on Synology VMM to maximize backup reliability and minimize the burden in production environments.
  • Run on VMM: The unique feature, integration with Synology VMM, allows users to create the same IT environment as the product site, serving as a temporary Disaster Recovery solution, export/import objects and an upgrade testing environment.

Joint Solution Offers a Secure and Accessible Alternative to Traditional NAS Devices

AUSTIN, TX – June 13, 2018 — / — Caringo, Inc. today announced a technology partnership with Komprise to solve issues caused by the astonishing rate of growth of unstructured data, such as documents, videos, photos and audio files, with increased quality and resolution by pairing Komprise intelligent data management technology with Caringo Swarm, hassle-free, limitless storage. As file creation and access has changed, the traditional Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices often used to store and provide access to an organization’s files are no longer adequate for today’s rapidly scaling data stores. Many organizations are turning to the cloud to offload data; however, daily transfer rates and bandwidth constraints quickly become an issue as does data that contains sensitive information.

“At Caringo, we’ve long known that traditional NAS devices are a limiting technology and that, in time, organizations would need to look for more sophisticated tools to expand their storage capabilities and securely hold massive amounts of data on premise, eliminating the worry of ransomware and hacks,” said Adrian Herrera, Caringo VP of Marketing. “With Komprise and Caringo, that transition is quite easy and you can reap the many benefits of object-based storage.”

With the joint solution, you can easily identify data via the Komprise user interface to move from NAS, realize the cost reduction, then securely transfer data based on its value to Caringo Swarm scale-out object storage. Once in Swarm, data is continuously protected without backups and instantly and securely available internally or externally. With automated archiving from NAS, a single-pane management interface and the ability to scale to 100s of PBs on any hardware, organizations can now align storage and access with data value while protecting archives from hacks and ransomware and significantly reducing backup cycles, speeding recovery and lowering storage Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)—all without disrupting users or applications.

“Customers are realizing that with today’s explosive data growth, a one-size-fits-all approach to store and manage data is no longer tenable,” said Krishna Subramanian, COO Komprise. “We are excited to partner with Caringo and enable enterprises to continue leveraging NAS and Flash investments for hot data while transparently offloading cold data management and storage without any disruption to users or applications.”

On Thursday, June 21, Caringo will host a webinar titled “Slash Storage TCO for Rapidly Scaling Data Sets” on BrightTALK at 10 AM PT/1PM ET. This educational webinar will feature Glen Olsen, Caringo Product Manager, and Krishna Subramanian, Komprise COO.

Register now to watch live or on demand and learn more about how Komprise and Caringo have partnered to solve today’s most pressing storage issues by pairing Komprise’s intelligent data management technology with Caringo Swarm hassle-free, limitless object storage.

- AWS EC2-native backup now available to protect cloud-native workloads

- Rubrik extends deeper into the enterprise data center with new Solaris and AIX protection

PALO ALTO, Calif. – June 13, 2018 — / — Rubrik today announced the release of Alta 4.2, the latest advancement in its Cloud Data Management platform. With Alta 4.2, Rubrik reinforces its market-leading position as a single control plane for the enterprise hybrid cloud, with further support for private cloud, public cloud, and traditional data center workloads. Rubrik users now have the ability to protect a broad set of cloud-native AWS EC2 workloads and traditional enterprise platforms like AIX and Solaris with the same data management software, helping organizations bridge the gap between existing and future infrastructures.

Most enterprises are interested in developing a hybrid cloud computing strategy to exploit the benefits of public cloud infrastructure as a service/platform as a service (IaaS/PaaS) for better elasticity, agility and overall operational efficiency. According to polling results from Gartner’s Data Center Infrastructure & Operations Management Summit, 32% of IT leaders reported that developing a private/public/hybrid cloud strategy is the largest data center (DC) challenge they face.1 Enterprises adopting the hybrid cloud look for flexibility to easily migrate workloads across environments based upon economic or business requirements.

“There is no question that hybrid cloud is the future, and adoption will be driven by both present workloads and future architecture,” said Arvind Nithrakashyap, Chief Technology Officer at Rubrik. “We built Alta 4.2 to enable every aspect of an enterprise hybrid cloud strategy. Our goal is to make it simpler for every organization to adopt the public cloud and to build an AWS-like, self-service cloud offering of their own. And we ensure everything is integrated in one, full-featured solution, so your infrastructure team has the same Rubrik experience whether you’re working with proprietary UNIX workloads or cloud-native applications.”

Cloud-native data protection through a single control plane
As enterprises deploy new, cloud-native applications for AI, real-time-analytics, IoT, and other use cases, Rubrik offers Amazon Web Services EC2-native backup and lifecycle management to protect those applications in the cloud. Whether you deploy Rubrik in a data center or on AWS, Rubrik Cloud Data Management can now index, catalog, and protect any application running on Amazon EC2. Using AWS’s API-based functionality, Rubrik simplifies the backup and recovery process, making it possible to run everything on the cloud – production applications, source data, backup and recovery software, and archival storage.

New simplicity and manageability for MSPs via self-service and private cloud
Building on the multi-cloud foundation of prior Alta releases, Rubrik Alta 4.2 integrates with vCloud Director, VMware’s popular platform for creating an elastic private cloud environment. For managed service providers and large enterprises with multiple co-hosted tenant users, Rubrik also offers its Envoy service to simplify and accelerate self-service. Envoy represents a service provider’s Rubrik cluster in a tenant network, making it easy for end-users to customize their backup services in a flexible, shared-everything private cloud. This helps every organization – from small MSPs to large, complex IT departments – to provide backup-as-a-service.

“Rubrik’s scalable platform and highly reliable solution helps us ensure that our secure managed private cloud is supported by seamless disaster recovery for our users across the globe,” said Arash Marzban, Director of Product Management for Armor. “Rubrik’s latest release shows its continued commitment to provide innovative offerings for managed service providers.”

Extending deeper into the enterprise data center
The hybrid cloud also promises to bridge the gap between long-lived traditional data center applications and the new infrastructure of the future. To this point, Rubrik Alta 4.2 protects both IBM AIX and Oracle Solaris within the core product, offering enterprise operations teams the same suite of data management tools that they use for other physical, virtualized, and cloud-based workloads. Organizations can begin moving some of these workloads into the cloud in a matter of hours. And for larger enterprises that have adopted Rubrik, supporting proprietary operating systems will make it easier to standardize on the Rubrik platform.

“We’re advocates of the modern Rubrik approach across our physical and virtual environments,” said Kevin Mortimer, Infrastructure Services Manager at the University of Reading. “With Rubrik Alta 4.2, we’re excited to see the platform extend even deeper into the data center, further revolutionizing our approach to backing up our data.”

Respondents not willing to foot the bill for traditional backup, DR for endless data copies

BOSTON, MA – June 12, 2018 — / — ClearSky Data, provider of on-demand primary storage with built-in offsite backup and DR as a service, today announced the results of its recent survey on the state of disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS). The findings reflect the experiences of more than 500 senior-level IT leaders. While respondents were enthusiastic about the potential for DRaaS to improve data protection strategies under limited budgets, the majority have no plans to move to a cloud-only approach, making a strong case for hybrid DR.

ClearSky’s survey asked leaders in a range of industries where they store their data, how often they test their DR strategies, what level of data growth they expect this year and more. The findings confirm data protection remains a critical concern for enterprise IT leaders, who want efficient ways to protect all their data and remain operational in the event of disasters. However, despite cloud advances, 51 percent of respondents said they have no plans to move to cloud-only approaches. About the same number reported they are deployed in hybrid models today.

The survey feedback also revealed:

  • Two-thirds of respondents still maintain physical secondary data centers.
  • Forty-one percent of participants expect data to grow between 20 and 40 percent this year.
  • Forty percent of annual data growth is driven by retention policies.
  • Seventy percent of participants perform DR testing once per year or less.

“This survey data raises a key question about how more IT teams can gain access to the cloud for DR in a way that makes sense,” said Ellen Rubin, CEO and co-founder of ClearSky Data. “Companies are getting stuck trying to copy and store their way out of their data protection and DR challenges, which exacerbates the problems. Companies can demand better by deploying solutions with built-in backup and DR.”

Hybrid data protection and DR strategies bridge the on-prem reality described by survey respondents with the benefits of the cloud companies want: focus, speed, agility and cost reduction. ClearSky Data provides on-demand backup and DR with primary storage as a single service. Users can eliminate secondary data centers, cut replication and stop doing backup, while automatically protecting data offsite and for DR. Users can scale up or down on demand, paying for a single, durable copy of data that is accessible from anywhere – on-prem or in the cloud.

Read the complete results of the ClearSky Data survey in this SlideShare, “500 IT leaders weigh in on the state of DRaaS” –

About ClearSky Data
ClearSky Data delivers on-demand primary storage with built-in offsite backup and disaster recovery (DR) as a single service. New DR solution ensures business continuity even in the most extreme circumstances

DUBLIN, IRELAND – June 12, 2018 — / —  Savenet Solutions, the leading Dublin based cloud data protection company, has recently completed a cutting-edge cloud disaster recovery solution for Laya healthcare, Ireland’s second largest health insurance provider.

The new disaster recovery solution protects Laya Healthcare by enabling the business to carry on trading as normal, even in the unlikely event that its entire head office building was unavailable for any reason.

Laya Healthcare went to market in 2016 for a new DR solution that would protect the business against everything from commonplace technical issues, to a full disaster scenario, where its head office building is unavailable. Savenet won the tendering process and the project was rolled out in late 2016.

Technically, the solution was built around Zerto replication technology, which is the leading product of its kind in the world. Savenet is a long-term partner of Zerto in Ireland. 60 mission-critical VMs are now continuously replicated to the Savenet cloud using Zerto.

This system is achieving a phenomenal recovery point objective (RPO) of 15 seconds – which means the DR system is only 15 seconds behind the production servers. The time is takes to recover the whole system – recovery time objective (RTO) is an equally impressive time of just under three hours.

The solution also provides Virtual Desktops for 150 users to be deployed via secure gateway to the Internet – to allow users to access their critical applications from anywhere. This is particularly useful for the Laya Healthcare customer care teams – who simply relocate a local business resiliency site in Cork, log into their virtual desktops and carry on.

This solution has afforded Laya Healthcare significant cost savings – easily 50% cheaper than building a traditional dual-site solution, with vastly improved performance and benefits over a traditional storage-based solution.

Savenet manage everything as a fully managed service, so the Laya Healthcare team are not unnecessarily involved in tasks such as the DR environment.

L-R: Ian Brennan, IT Director of Laya Healthcare, Lorcan Cunningham, CTO of Savenet

Lorcan Cunningham, CTO of Savenet said, “We chose Zerto to be the central component of the solution because it’s the best technology in the market for virtual machine replication. We had already implemented Zerto for several customers prior to Laya Healthcare – and it has proven itself to be extremely reliable – and truly an enterprise-class product.

Another reason we chose Zerto is because it can scale to any level and provides other benefits too – for example, it provides great protection from ransomware attacks, due to its ability to roll back a server to a point in time – milliseconds before the ransomware took hold.”

Ian Brennan, Director of IT Laya Healthcare said, “Protecting our members personal data is of critical importance to our business, so we need a robust and disaster-proof DR solution in place to safeguard our information and ensure our business operations run smoothly in the event of an incident.”

“The disaster recovery solution we have in place now with Savenet is hugely important to us. It reduces our business risk and really demonstrates our commitment to ensuring we are always available to look after the needs of our more than 580,000 members.”

“A real efficiency with the solution is that there is no longer a reliance on our wider Laya Healthcare IT team to perform a DR failover as Savenet manage everything and monitor the system continually.”

“They now operate as an extension of our IT team and the knowledge of our environment is shared with them. This system is flexible and can scale very easily as we continue to grow, and we like that,” he said.

  • Telekom Cloud Backup adresses companies that process or generate large data volumes and protects both workstations such as PCs and laptops, as well as servers;
  • The solution is based on high performing and secure datacenters for data storage and damage or loss prevention;
  • Complete data security all through the data flow due to the advanced encryption technologies and   SSL connections;
  • Based on Veeam Cloud Connect technology, the solution is simple and easy to use, does not require investments in additional IT infrastructure and is available on monthly subscription.

BUCHAREST, ROMANIA – June 12, 2018 — / — Telekom Romania is launching Telekom Cloud Backup, a cloud backup solution for companies that use applications and servers that process or generate large data volumes that they wish to protect against loss or damage. Such applications include online services, ERP or CRM systems, e-mail, website.

Telekom Cloud Backup solution was created based on Veeam Cloud Connect technology and covers a wide range of backup scenarios for companies, aiming to protect both workstations (PC, laptop), and servers with Linux or Windows operation systems. The data is automatically stored on a backup platform implemented in Telekom Romania’s high performing and secure datacenters, located in Romania, where each client has a dedicated storage space.

“In a digitalized world, data protection against cyber attacks or loss and deterioration is essential. Telekom Cloud Backup solution is supporting companies for which data is one of the most important assets. The new solution integrates a series of competitive advantages that Telekom Romania has as integrated IT&C solutions provider. The superior quality of IT infrastructure, the highest performing and secure datacenters in Romania, the highest performing data storage solution, together with Veeam Cloud Connect guarantee to our clients, companies, the best cloud backup solution from Telekom”, Ovidiu Ghiman, Chief Commercial Officer Business Segment, Telekom Romania, said.

Available on a monthly based subscription for the storage space and for Veeam software licenses, the solution does not require investments in additional IT infrastructure. The installation and configuration take only a few minutes and the backup copies are automatically stored, according to a calendar set by each user, without the need to perform additional operations for data storage. Telekom Cloud Backup significantly reduces the client’s effort to implement and manage a backup solution, a feature that meets the requirements of the 3-2-1-0 data protection strategy, according to which, the most efficient method to secure data requires the existence of 3 copies, on 2 different systems, 1 of which must be at distance, in a different geographical location, to ensure 0 errors.

The clients of Telekom Cloud Backup solution benefit from full data security – at the source, during the transfer and at the destination, due to the advanced encryption technologies and the SSL connections. The solution can be activated immediately after signing the acquisition contract and the clients benefit at the same time of specialized technical support provided by Telekom Romania’s technical team.

Moreover, the clients benefit from unlimited data traffic, being able thus to configurate their backup policies any way they wish, without the concern of generated data volume, and the storage volume can be extended anytime, avoiding thus the storage space limitations generated by file dimensions or the total space available on the disk. Furthermore, the users only pay the cost of the volume acquired every month.

Telekom Cloud Backup solution addresses both clients that are already using Veeam backup technology for their own IT infrastructure, as well as those that don’t use this technology. The solution is automatically connected to Veeam Backup & Replication application or the backup agent installed on the client’s equipment.

The right Office 365 migration & cloud backup tools enable MSPs to accelerate growth and profitability, according to AMI’s latest whitepaper

NEW YORK, NY – June 12, 2018 — / — AMI-Partners (AMI) announced today the release of its latest whitepaper titled Accelerate Growth and Profitability with Office 365 Migrations and Ongoing Cloud Services: How MSP-ISV Partnerships Are Empowering Small and Mid-Sized Business in The Cloud. The white paper covers the findings of a recent global study on Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and how some are achieving faster growth and profitability.

According to AMI, MSPs are finding that firms with less than 1,000 employees (SMBs) are an increasingly attractive market as they are migrating to the cloud in growing numbers. AMI estimates that SMBs will spend nearly $40 billion on cloud-based e-mail and productivity solutions such as Office 365 by 2022, growing at a CAGR of 25 percent worldwide. These firms typically lack in-house tools and expertise and turn to MSPs when moving to an Office 365 environment. MSPs, in turn, are partnering with solution providers for greater efficiency and effectiveness in the migration process. According to Joseph Bertran, associate director at AMI, “When it comes to SMB Office 365 migrations, partners have a variety of tools to choose from including BitTitan, Microsoft and SkyKick. While each tool offers unique benefits, their approaches differ and some deliver greater profitability and acceleration for MSPs.”

By using a suitable tool, MSPs reported being able to save an average of 18 hours on a typical SMB migration project. This enables them to achieve significantly greater profitability by allowing them to complete twice as many migrations with the same amount of time and resources. AMI’s whitepaper reveals how MSPs can leverage an effective tool to maximize time saving and profitability. That process begins with understanding the attributes of an effective migration solution and choosing one that fits the MSP’s approach and strategy. Savvy MSPs look for a tool that is technically robust, offers a great partner and user experience, and intelligently uses automation to increase efficiency. The tool that offered the highest satisfaction and largest increase in profitability was the one that provided a comprehensive approach to automation spanning sales planning through delivery.

Forward-looking MSPs view Office 365 migrations as a critical beachhead for an ongoing and trusted relationship with their customers. For example, many MSPs offering migration tools are also looking at cloud backup solutions to protect their customers while enabling a recurring revenue stream. According to the white paper, 95 percent of MSPs using tools that deliver on key features and provide cloud-backup said that they experienced a material increase in profitability when compared to other tools. MSPs that participated in the study indicated that cloud backup tools are as critical to them as those which assist them with migrating their customers to the cloud.

The investment is a testament to Cohesity’s leadership in transforming data center and cloud operations with web-scale simplicity for secondary data. This round brings total equity raised to $410 million, outpacing all other Series D enterprise software investments in the United States over the last 18 months. This is only the second time SoftBank Investment Advisers has invested in an enterprise software company. Cohesity is using the investment to power large-scale global expansion by attacking a problem that enterprises currently spend an estimated $60 billion each year to address using separate point solutions.

“Cohesity pioneered hyperconverged secondary storage as a first stepping stone on the path to a much larger transformation of enterprise infrastructure spanning public and private clouds,” said Deep Nishar, senior managing partner, SoftBank Investment Advisers. “We believe that Cohesity’s web-scale Google-like approach, cloud-native architecture, and incredible simplicity is changing the business of IT in a fundamental way.”

“My vision has always been to provide enterprises with cloud-like simplicity for their many fragmented applications and data – backup, test and development, analytics, and more,” said Cohesity CEO and Founder Mohit Aron. “Cohesity has built significant momentum and market share during the last 12 months and we are just getting started. We succeed because our customers are some of the world’s brightest and most fanatical IT organizations and are an extension of our development efforts.”

Accelerated Enterprise Adoption Drives Company Momentum

Accelerating enterprise adoption: Over 200 new enterprise customers selected Cohesity in just the last two quarters, including Air Bud Entertainment, AutoNation, BC Oil and Gas Commission, Bungie, Harris Teeter, Hyatt, Kelly Services, LendingClub, Piedmont Healthcare, Schneider Electric, the San Francisco Giants, TCF Bank, the U.S. Department of Energy, the U.S. Air Force, and WestLotto.

Rapid revenue growth: Cohesity’s annual revenues surged 600 percent from 2016 to 2017.

Outstanding customer satisfaction: Cohesity was recognized as a 2018 Gartner Peer Insights Customer’s Choice solution for enterprise data center backup and recovery.

Award-winning support: Cohesity has earned the NorthFace Scoreboard Award for excellence in customer service the last two years in a row.

By simplifying application and data management while dramatically improving efficiency, Cohesity has delivered enormous value to customers. Cohesity DataPlatform addresses the fragmented and complex infrastructure that enterprises are currently attacking with massive resources that could be driving success in other parts of the business.

“We believe Cohesity’s hyperconverged architecture promises to fundamentally change the secondary storage landscape. We are excited to help fuel the company’s momentum in providing enterprise customers with seamless application and data movement across the cloud and corporate data center,” said Pete Chung, managing principal and head of Morgan Stanley Expansion Capital. “Cohesity represents that elusive combination of rapid growth, meaningful scale, and market momentum we look for as later-stage investors.”

Cohesity will also benefit from the renewed support of strategic investors Cisco and HPE, both innovative technology leaders serving the Forbes Global 2000. HPE offers a suite of comprehensive solutions built with Cohesity’s platform. Their decision to double down on prior strategic investments in Cohesity will give the company an even greater foothold to grow its presence among enterprise customers throughout the world.

“HPE’s expanding relationship with Cohesity stems from our commitment to deliver the best technology solutions to solve our customers’ crucial business challenges, whether through organic development or partnership,” said Vishal Lall, chief strategy officer, HPE. “We continue to collaborate closely to integrate Cohesity’s market-leading hyperconverged secondary storage platform with our cutting-edge data center solutions to provide an integrated, tested, and validated offer to customers. We are proud to invest and partner with Cohesity through our Hewlett Packard Pathfinder program.”

“Cisco has a long history of innovation in modernizing the data center and we are excited to increase our investment in Cohesity,” said Rob Salvagno, vice president, Corporate Development at Cisco. “Cohesity has quickly managed to scale in the secondary data and applications market by delivering a software fabric that combines the simplicity, scalability, and cost efficiency modern enterprises are looking for.”

“We first met Mohit when he was envisioning how to bring modern system design to the secondary storage market, which led to the founding of Cohesity,” said Dr. Bill Coughran, partner at Sequoia Capital. “We’ve been thrilled with Cohesity’s tremendous growth since its Series A and are excited by its accelerating progress.”

Comments from Participating Investors:
“In the same way that Mohit Aron transformed the primary storage environment as founder of Nutanix, Cohesity’s explosive growth is proving once again that his world class team is well on its way to creating another category-defining company,” said Stuart Peterson, senior partner, ARTIS Ventures.

“We backed Mohit at his previous firm, Nutanix, and are proud to support him again at Cohesity. The company has a smart and timely vision for radically simplifying secondary data for large customers, which is part of a broader move by enterprises toward hybrid-cloud infrastructure. We believe Cohesity is armed with the right team and product to attack this large and growing market,” said Neeraj Agrawal, general partner, Battery Ventures.

“I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Cohesity’s founder and CEO Mohit Aron for nearly a decade, working with him closely as an investor for the last three years. A brilliant engineer, architect, and leader, Mohit is uniquely positioned to lead the enterprise IT transformation for secondary data. Cohesity’s customer enthusiasm and market traction are a testament to the team’s deep technical expertise, unique product vision, and implicit understanding of enterprise infrastructure and the cloud,” said Karan Mehandru, general partner, Trinity Ventures.

“Cohesity’s latest investment round is validation of the value their unique hyperconverged secondary data platform provides and their ability to adapt to industry trends towards hybrid cloud infrastructure. Their approach to simplifying the process for secondary data management and workloads at web scale is truly ground-breaking and we look forward to continuing to support them on their journey,” said Quinn Li, VP and global head of Qualcomm Ventures.

“Companies can unlock enormous value by consolidating and simplifying the enterprise data center. Cohesity has designed the perfect platform to address this crucial opportunity in the face of organizations’ multiplying volume and types of data generated across different non-primary systems. We’re proud to have supported Cohesity’s vision from the beginning, and we’re excited to now see this new approach to secondary data take hold across the globe,” said Gaurav Garg, founding partner, Wing Venture Capital.

Synectics plc is using NAKIVO Backup & Replication installed on a Synology NAS to back up and replicate VMware VMs, while also saving one full day per week on VM backup administration

Sparks, NV – June 11, 2018 — / — NAKIVO Inc., a fast-growing software company for protecting virtualized and cloud environments, has announced today that Synectics has selected NAKIVO Backup & Replication to protect their VMware environment.

Synectics plc designs, delivers, and manages integrated security and surveillance systems for various security environments worldwide. Synectics plc is listed on the UK AIM market and has over 500 employees spread across three continents: North America, Europe, and Asia.

With two internal datacenters, Synectics’ virtual environment has approximately 30 ESXi hosts. VMware VMs host Microsoft Exchange for the group and a number of business-critical applications using SQL Server backend databases. In addition, VMs hold the shared user data folders. VM backup and recovery are important, in order to ensure that all business-critical applications are operational at all times. In order to avoid data loss or downtime that can impact business processes, a VM backup solution that can deliver 24/7 availability is a must.

“Previously, we employed a combination of backing up to physical tape drives and electronic backups to hard disks in different locations for different applications and servers. The previous approach was difficult to manage and was not centralized. We needed a product that could provide VM backup and replication from a single portal, a VM backup solution that could provide reliable VM backup with a single pane for monitoring and alerts, while also offering VM replication, in order to enhance our disaster recovery capability,” says Amanpreet Singh, responsible for IT resilience at Synectics.

By choosing NAKIVO Backup & Replication as its VM backup solution, Synectics plc has significantly improved the robustness of its backup solution and centralized VM backup and VM replication. With availability of Synology NAS installation, Synectics also has managed to create a high-performance VM backup appliance.

“We have two Synology RS2416RP+ servers, with approximately 48TB each, so we of course decided to utilize such installation option by combining both software and hardware. The whole installation and configuration was very well documented and the process was very straightforward to carry out. Integrating NAKIVO Backup & Replication and a Synology NAS provides us with an additional security of VM backups,” says Amanpreet.

NAKIVO Backup & Replication enables Synectics plc to back up VMware VMs locally and to remote sites. “We perform VM backup every day and have improved VM backup performance significantly with NAKIVO Backup & Replication,” says Amanpreet.

Screenshot verification complements VM backup by providing assurance for Synectics plc that data can be recovered from VMware backups. “The screenshot verification feature provides us with evidence that VM backups have completed successfully, by sending reports that include screenshots of test-recovered VMs, thus verifying that all VM backups are good and VMs can be recovered,” says Amanpreet.

NAKIVO Backup & Replication provides Synectics with the ability to easily replicate critical application servers to the secondary datacenter for disaster recovery purposes. “The VM Replication feature allows us to replicate our key VMs from one location to another and then vice versa. Since we have quite a large amount of data, it takes approximately 6 hours to replicate key VMware VMs. With VM replication, we are protected against any catastrophic failures that might occur because we can near instantly bring the key VMs up at the remote site with minimal impact on the ongoing basis,” says Amanpreet.

NAKIVO Backup & Replication installed on a Synology NAS provides Synectics plc with full VM backups and VM replication between sites from a single portal. With VM backup, the company has managed to improve VM backup performance, in comparison to the backup to tape approach. VM replication provides an easy way of replicating servers to the remote site and, thanks to the screenshot verification, Synectics plc also benefits from an additional layer of visibility.

“NAKIVO Backup & Replication has allowed us to centralize the VM backup process of the entire IT estate. The single management and monitoring web portal is a significant asset in managing the backup process for us. With NAKIVO Backup & Replication, we have saved at least one full day per week on backup administration, in terms of controlling and ensuring that all VM backups have completed successfully, as well as the product removed the need for any local intervention at remote sites with regards to backup tape swapping or retention,” says Amanpreet.

The new File Fabric Slack application enables on-premises and on-cloud files to be securely shared through Slack

LONDON, UK – 11th June 2018 — / — Storage Made Easy® (SME) today announced that they have released a Slack Application for integration with the File Fabric Slack. This new integration allows users to set security controls on how long a file can be shared for, the number of times the file can be accessed, and adds encryption and/or password protection to access the file.

Slack is a cloud-based collaboration tool that connects teams, providing a single place for messaging, tools and files. Users of the privately hosted, or on-cloud, versions of the SME File Fabric, can now take advantage of the Slack integration for ultra-secure file sharing with team members.

The File Fabric supports over 60 storage connectors enabling shared file access with Slack from WebDav and Windows Filers, in addition to Cloud solutions such as Amazon S3, Microsoft Azure Storage, Google Cloud Storage, IBM COS, Cloudian, OpenStack Swift, SFTP, FTP, and many more.

Jim Liddle CEO said, “As a tech company we use Slack and in truth part of the reason for developing the integration was for our own use. We wanted the ability for private file sharing through Slack for files we store on filers in our offices, as well as files that are stored on public cloud infrastructure such as Amazon, Google or Azure. We think many companies will want to use it in a similar way.”

Liddle continued, “We already have buy-in to the rules repository from existing customers in the various geographies that we serve, who see it as a key way of being able to secure, find and classify personal data, to enable compliance with increasingly sophisticated compliance regimes. These rulesets will eventually span languages and geographies and will provide a uniquely useful resource for not only corporate customers, but also service providers and educational establishments.”

Customers use the Storage Made Easy Enterprise File Fabric™ to unify corporate data islands and provide a ‘single pane of glass’ for security, encryption, audit, data discovery and content search.

About Storage Made Easy (SME)
Storage Made Easy provides a multi-cloud data management and data protection product called the Enterprise File Fabric™ that unifies on-premises and on-cloud company storage assets in addition to standalone products that bridge desktop and cloud, such as operating system native cloud drives and cloud explorer applications.

The File Fabric provides cloud-like economics across a company’s storage portfolio, unlocking the benefits and cost-efficiency of its data assets whilst providing strict controls and governance for legislative compliance and security concerns such as ransomware attacks. Existing site-based storage infrastructures can be transformed into an on-premises private cloud, delivering a storage-as-a-service model to the company. Local storage can be connected to public clouds, expertly managed by the File Fabric as a unified hybrid cloud storage platform.

The File Fabric solution offers a “blanket” that companies can privately apply to wrap around all their data: on-premises, within a public cloud, or on a third party software vendors’ cloud (SharePoint or SalesForce for example). Customers can use the File Fabric for security, encryption and control with a focus on compliance regimes such as GDPR, HIPAA, FERPA and GBLA.

Customers include one of the world’s largest social media companies, and also one of the largest global retailers, in addition to global internet service providers, universities and international government and governmental bodies.

The company is backed by one of the largest alternative asset managers in addition to entrepreneurs in the London market insurance industry, who have previously successfully sold their company to a listed peer.

Storage Made Easy is the trading name of Vehera LTD.

DUBLIN, Ireland – 11th June, 2018 — / — Viatel today announced that its Enterprise Cloud Storage-as-a-Service has been successfully deployed by Brandon Global IT.

Brandon needed fast, secure and good value storage. Tom O’Neill, CEO of Brandon explains, “We didn’t want to build a platform ourselves – after all we’re a services company. Instead, we were looking for a platform that we could wrap our services around to create a solution. The Viatel solution has hit the mark for us in terms of performance, security and value for money”.

Viatel’s Storage Cloud enabled Brandon with a solution that could sit directly on top of their services without having to change what services they offer their customers and the technologies that they use. To mitigate against various types of failure, the disaster recovery solution consisted of multiple level of backups using Veeam that provides both onsite and offsite data replication for their customers – giving them peace of mind at all times that their data will not only be backed up but also stored in Ireland.

“Moving to the Viatel Storage Cloud was extremely fast and seamless – we had to change nothing – knowing we can increase our storage capacities as our business continues to grow is a real benefit” O’Neill said. Brandon intend to migrate all of their customers onto the Viatel platform and expand the range of services that they can deliver as they utilize the platform in many ways.

OREM, Utah and BOSTON, MA – June 10, 2018 — / — ClearCenter and Sia today announced a partnership to lay the foundation of the Blockchain-secured ClearSHARE decentralized storage platform. The combined solution will provide an easy-to-use, robust and scalable decentralized storage service backend.

The new ClearSHARE platform will be built upon Sia’s Blockchain-based secure storage layer. ClearSHARE will be compatible with the CLEAR Token ecosystem and ClearCenter’s new ClearNODE product line that will be released with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) at CEBIT in Germany on June 11, 2018. ClearNODE is a bundle of hardware, software and services aimed at providing a secure platform and decentralized app (Dapp) marketplace for Blockchain-related services, developers and applications.

ClearSHARE will have the option to combine Sia’s back-end storage with Nextcloud’s user interface and integrate both services into ClearCenter’s ClearOS operating system. The completed ClearSHARE app will deliver the first truly turnkey Blockchain-based storage platform that will be disruptive inside the small business storage industry since ClearSHARE will not require Linux command line knowledge or other advanced IT skills.

ClearSHARE will mirror data both on-premise and also in a secure decentralized peer-to-peer global cloud network. ClearSHARE automatically splits, encrypts, and distributes customers’ files and data in the background without requiring special IT skills or knowledge to implement. The customer only has access to encryption keys and maintains absolute control over his or her data.

Locally, ClearSHARE provides data backup and redundancy benefits similar to a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device. The addition of automatic mirroring on a decentralized worldwide network brings consistency, verifiability and the peace-of-mind against the prospect of a local disaster or service interruption causing a loss of data.

In addition to utilizing ClearSHARE’s network for remote backup, customers can earn CLEAR Tokens by optionally making their own unused storage capacity available to the ClearSHARE network.

“Decentralized cloud storage brings huge benefits,” said David Vorick, Sia’s Lead Developer. “We are excited that ClearSHARE will bring Sia to small businesses and enterprises with a user-friendly solution.”

“We’re grateful for the team at Sia and their willingness to work with us to help the ClearSHARE platform succeed,” said ClearCenter Founder and CEO Michael Proper.

In the future, ClearCenter plans to bring additional Dapps and services to ClearNODE, including a hybrid hardware/software wallet app and the ability for ClearNODE owners to farm CLEAR Tokens in a compute-resource and environmentally friendly fashion.

Former Sprinklr and Founding VCE COO to Scale Company to the Next Level for Global Growth

SUNNYVALE, CA – June 11, 2018 — / — Datrium, the leader in tier 1 hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) for hybrid clouds, today announced the appointment of Tim Page as CEO.

Datrium’s next stage of growth will tap Page’s leadership and experience from Sprinklr, a cloud service for enterprises, where he served as COO. Prior to his tenure at Sprinklr, Page was also the COO and a founding member of VCE, where he created the Converged Infrastructure market and sustained a $3bn run-rate in just six years. Page will replace co-founder Brian Biles in the CEO role. Biles will continue to serve the company as Chief Product Officer.

“Tim is a great leadership fit for Datrium,” said Biles. “His combination of experiences in leadership in cloud services and converged infrastructure are perfect for us.”

“From the very beginning I was impressed with the incredible people at Datrium, blending some of the top minds in SaaS, virtualization and data management. The company’s achievements have been phenomenal—record customer adoption, huge sales growth, and new software being released at a blistering pace,” said Page. “Enterprises are asking for a higher-end, massively scalable infrastructure than legacy HCI, and one that’s a bridge to the cloud. Datrium is absolutely the right company at the right time, and I am thrilled to be here.”

The company’s early success comes in large part from the breakthrough capabilities associated with its award-winning Datrium DVX, a single converged data lifecycle platform for hybrid clouds. Datrium’s new breed of convergence has proven itself to be a gamechanger for customers that include the likes of a global consumer products company and technology powerhouses Siemens, Zeon Chemical, BioMarin, VPay and the US Department of Defense.

In recent months, Datrium has also enjoyed substantial channel growth fueled by strategic relationships with technology partners including Dell, Oracle, RedHat, and Citrix. In January, the company also began its global expansion with the opening of offices in Japan and Canada.

About Datrium
Datrium is the leader in tier 1 hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) for hybrid clouds. Datrium converges tier 1 HCI, scale-out backup and cloud disaster recovery for vastly simpler administration, protection of hybrid cloud infrastructure, and higher IO performance than available with traditional HCI alternatives.
