IRVINE, Calif. Nov. 01, 2016 — / — NGD Systems, a storage pioneer creating intelligent solid state drives (SSDs) for the cloud data center, was awarded two patents developed by Joao Alcantara and Vladimir Alves. To date, NGD Systems holds 14 patents awarded by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

“We’ve come a long way towards realizing our finished product, optimized for the Internet Data Center and Hyperscale Computing,” said Vladimir Alves, PhD, co-founder and chief technology officer of NGD Systems and co-author on both of the newly awarded patents. “The awarding of these patents underpins some of our core technologies and is fundamental to our work to bring intelligent SSDs to market. These patents help create a solid ecosystem for SSDs both in the Cloud and the Fog.”

U.S. Patent 9,448,745 was filed on March 13, 2014 and awarded for a configurable read-modify-write (RMW) engine and method for operating the same in a solid state drive. In brief, the patent published by the USPTO is for a method of automating the overwriting of host data on a storage device to improve performance while reducing latency and power.

U.S. Patent 9,454,551 was awarded for a system and method for management of garbage collection operations on a solid state drive. The patent application was originally filed on March 13, 2014.
