New Initiative to Support the World Bank Group, UN Foundation, Teach For America, and More

LOS ALTOS, CA – May 28, 2014 — / — Box today launched, a new initiative focused on empowering global nonprofits and development organizations to achieve their missions and deliver lasting social impact through better use of technology. To make the Box platform more accessible to nonprofits and their networks, the initiative will include free licenses and special plans for eligible organizations. Box also introduced Bryan Breckenridge as Executive Director of, and announced an advisory board to help shape future efforts, tapping the expertise of industry leaders, such as Clinton Global Initiative, Salesforce Foundation, and the World Bank Group.

Box has seen significant demand for better ways to share and collaborate in the nonprofit world. New customers include the World Bank Group, the United Nations Foundation, charity:water, International Rescue Committee, Teach For America, The Conservation Fund and NetHope. These organizations join more than one thousand innovative nonprofits — such as Kiva, Grameen Foundation, and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society — using Box to collaborate internally and externally, manage and share mission-critical information, communicate with donors, and access documents from anywhere in the world on any device.

Bringing Free Box Licenses to Nonprofits
The vast majority of nonprofits worldwide operate with small staffs and limited budgets; in fact, 1.8 million registered nonprofits today have an average of six employees or less[1]. To help small teams achieve massive goals, Box is gifting ten free seats to all eligible organizations.

Special plans for nonprofits are as follows:

  • Ten donated Box licenses are offered as part of a special Starter package;
  • Nonprofits requiring more than the ten free seats will receive a 50 percent discount off of official Box list prices.

To be eligible for pricing, an organization must be a 501(c)(3) or equivalent designation.

Shaping Future Efforts with the Advisory Board
Box hired corporate philanthropy veteran Bryan Breckenridge to serve as Executive Director of With a wide breadth of experience in the nonprofit and education sector, most recently with LinkedIn for Good and the Salesforce Foundation, Bryan has helped nonprofits see the value of technology to achieve their missions.
