Cybersecurity awareness kit offers advice to prevent downtime and risks this Business Continuity Awareness Week

BIRMINGHAM, UK – 15 May, 2017 — /BackupReview.info/ — As part of the Business Continuity Institute’s Business Continuity Awareness Week (BCAW) 2017, managed service provider IT Specialists (ITS) has created a cybersecurity awareness kit that pulls together a number of resources to help businesses ensure that their cybersecurity awareness and planning is effective.

BCAW, which is 15-19 May 2017, is intended to raise awareness about business continuity and resilience following both high-profile and smaller incidents that threaten businesses. As a managed service provider, ITS offers a number of services that protect its clients in the face of major upheaval, including business continuity, IT support, field service and an outsourced service desk.

ITS’ cybersecurity awareness kit reveals that 40 per cent of organisations experienced a data breach in 2016 failed a compliance audit, and how only 13 per cent felt that their business’ data and network were safe from insider threats. It also offers advice on the top three ways to prepare for any security breach, and information on why education is key and the real value of personnel data theft.

Paul Barber, integration manager at ITS, explains: “Most cybersecurity breaches are caused by human error, so protecting your business isn’t up to the IT team alone. Everyone in your business needs to do their part and knowledge is the first step in protecting any organisation from breaches. Our cybersecurity awareness kit provides businesses with everything that they should know and also advises advising on how businesses and individuals could still be vulnerable, despite thinking that their cybersecurity strategy is top notch.”

The cybersecurity awareness kit includes a white paper “A unified approach to preventing IT security breaches”, which reveals why a unified approach is essentially to ensure that all of a business’ technology is visible and actively protected. An IT security checklist and an IT Security terms reference sheet are also included to help raise awareness of educating employees on cybersecurity best practices.

Test your cybersecurity knowledge
For anyone wanting to check how up to date their cybersecurity knowledge is, there is a five-question security awareness quiz, which ranks participants so businesses can identify how strong their employees’ and their own cybersecurity awareness is and gaps in knowledge.

In addition to increasing awareness of cybersecurity and business resilience, ITS’ goal is to help organisations mitigate the impact of business interruptions with its business continuity solutions, which include BlackVault Managed Recovery Platform, a fully managed disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS) platform utilising a hybrid cloud infrastructure.
